Today in Kano, APC Vice Presidential Candidate H.E Sen. Kashim Shettima paid a condolence visit to the family of the former Speaker House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Ghali Umar Na’Abba over the death of his mother, Hajiya Rabi Umar Na’Abba.

Shettima was accompanied to the visit by the Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Deputy National Chairman (North) APC, Sen Abubakar Kyari.

May Allah forgive her soul and admit her into Jannatul firdaus.

Borno: Buhari’s CoS Gambari opens 804 houses built by UNDP, Zulum’s Govt

… House-owners gifted 2,674 cattle, 100k each, food, clothes

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, on Saturday in Mafa town of Borno State, commissioned a combined number of 804 houses for the resettlement of displaced members of the Ngarannam community and neighboring villages.

Although the project is for 804 houses, a total of 564 were completed.

The 804 houses were houses by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Borno State Government.

Borno State Government is building 304 houses from which 204 were completed with 100 ongoing, while the UNDP has 500 units of houses funded through a Regional Stabilization Facility (RSF) from which 360 were completed while 140 were ongoing.

The UNDP’s housing estate, designed with a health centre, police post, school and market, was for the resettlement of Ngarannam community, while Borno’s houses are for resettlement of a number of villages neighboring Ngarannam.

From both projects, a total of 564 houses were completed out of the combined 804 targeted by Borno Government and the UNDP.

The UNDP had, in July 2019, developed a Regional Stabilization Facility (RSF) with support from Germany, Sweden, the United Kingdom (UK), the Netherlands and the European Union (EU).

The RSF was created to facilitate the implementation of a Regional Strategy for the Stabilization, Recovery & Resilience of areas affected by Boko Haram attacks around the Lake Chad Basin made up of communities in Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, and Chad. The RSF contributes towards the restoration of security and relief to communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency.

Ngarannam community in Mafa was attacked and destroyed by Boko Haram some years back, forcing community members to become displaced.

Zulum orders vocational skills at 3,226 Almajiri schools

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has ordered the integration of vocational skills in over 2,775 Sangaya centres widely known in the northern part of Nigeria as Almajiri schools and 451 Islamiyya Schools across the State.

Zulum gave the order on Tuesday at the Government House when he received an update on the validation and registration of Sangaya Schools in Borno State presented by the Governing Council of Arabic and Sangaya Education Board.

The Governor noted that with the introduction of vocational education, numeracy and literacy skills, Borno State Government intend to streamline the informal and formal education system to qualify Sangaya schools products to get admitted into colleges and universities.

Zulum also observed that the integration of vocational education will help to reduce the number of the out of school children and Almajiri’s roaming the streets in all parts of the State.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Arabic and Sangaya Education Board, Khalifa Ahmad Abulfatahi presented the findings of the validation and registration of Sangaya schools conducted across the 27 local government areas of the state with exception of Kala-Balge, Guzamala and Abadam.

He said the board has registered 2,775 Sanjaya centres with 12,309 teachers and 224,068 pupils. Of the 224,068 pupils, 128,789 are day learners while 97,279 are boarding learners.

He added that the board also identified 451 Islamiyya schools operating across the state.

24 primary school teachers allocated houses at quarters Zulum built

… Famous Igbo teacher among beneficiaries

Twenty-four school teachers have been allocated flats at a newly commissioned quarters built by Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration in Maiduguri.

The quarters was commissioned by President Buhari some weeks ago when he visited Maiduguri for the 2022 World Humanitarian Day.

The teachers quarters at Bulumkutu along airport road is one of over 600 capital projects delivered by Zulum.

Borno State Government allocated the fully furnished 24 units of the houses to Primary School Teachers from Maiduguri and Jere Local Education Authority (LEA) during a brief ceremony on Wednesday at the quarters.

Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, Borno State Commissioner for Education, while handing over the houses to beneficiaries, disclosed that Borno government has constructed similar edifices in Banki Town of Bama Local Government area and Mafa.

He also said Zulum's administration will extend such projects to other Local Government Areas in order to provide accommodation for hardworking teachers in the LGAs.

The commissioner further added that beneficiaries were selected based on merit from different Schools within the vicinity of the quarters. He charged teachers to take good care of the facility as it is an institutional property.

Meanwhile, The Commissioner for Housing and Energy, Engr. Yuguda Saleh Vungas, whose ministry constructed the quarters, while handing over the keys to the Honourable Commissioner for Education Engr., Lawan Abba Wakilbe, for onward allocation to teachers disclosed that the houses consisted of 12 units each of fully furnished two bedrooms, a parlour, kitchen and two self contained toilets, while 12 are fully furnished one bedroom, a parlour, kitchen and toilet.
