A HEAVY HEART AT TODAY'S JUMUβAH SERVICE π π₯Ί
Today, our Imam broke down in tears during the Jumuβah Khutbah, and in an instant, a heavy silence fell over the entire mosque. You could feel the collective grief as the congregation became overwhelmed by the story he shared a story that shattered our hearts.
He spoke of a 23-year-old girl, a daughter with dreams and a life ahead of her, who was kidnapped while traveling to Kontagora in Niger State.
While she was held in the darkness of captivity, she was subjected to unspeakable horrors. Night after night, she was violated and abused, her innocence stolen, even as her father, oblivious to the extent of her agony, desperately negotiated for her release.
Her father did the unthinkable to save her. He sold everything he owned, begged for loans, and drained his savings clinging to the singular, desperate hope of bringing his daughter home alive.
After days of agonizing struggle, he finally secured the ransom. With a voice trembling from exhaustion and relief, he made the call: "Please, let me speak with my daughter. Just for a moment. I need her to know that I am coming for her."
They handed her the phone.
Her voice, when she spoke, was not the voice of the daughter he remembered. It was a hollow, fractured whisper:
"Daddyβ¦ please. Stop. Donβt spend another kobo on me. They have destroyed me. They have violated me night after night. I am broken beyond repair, and I cannot find the strength to forgive myself for what has been done to me. Even if I return, I do not know how to exist in this world anymore. Pleaseβ¦ donβt pay the ransom."
And then, the line went dead.
At that moment, our Imam could no longer speak. His voice cracked, and he collapsed into raw, uncontrollable tears. The entire mosque joined him in his weeping, our hearts heavy with a grief that words cannot reach. We lifted our hands in prayer, beseeching the Almighty to rain down justice upon those who commit such monstrous acts of evil.
Whether or not the specifics of this tragedy are documented in the news, the truth it represents is a searing reality. Kidnapping does not just take a person; it leaves behind wounds that no amount of time can fully heal. It destroys the spirit, shatters families, and leaves scars on the soul that remain invisible to the world.
Every time a new story of abduction surfaces, a part of my heart breaks for the families left in this living hell. The psychological and physical torment they endure is a burden no human should ever have to bear.
O Allah, protect us from the wicked. Shield our mothers, our sisters, our daughters, and all our loved ones from the hands of those who harbor such malice.
May Allah restore safety, peace, and security to our land and to every corner of this world. AMEN π€²π³π¬π
