2027: Retain Shettima as running mate, Zulum urges Tinubu

Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno, on Sunday appealed to President Bola Tinubu to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate in 2027.

Zulum made the appeal while delivering his speech at the All Progressives Congress (APC) North East Consultative Forum meeting held in Gombe.

He said that Shettima had made significant contributions towards achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President and helped advanced the priorities of the Tinubu-led administration.

According to him, the synergy between Tinubu and Shettima was that of strong unity and shared vision which guaranteed that Nigeria is indeed well represented.

“We urge him (President Tinubu) to retain our own Kashim Shettima as running mate in 2027.

“On behalf of the people and government of Borno State, I endorse Tinubu and Kashim ticket 2027.

“I plead with this forum to also support the Tinubu/Kashim 2027 initiative, ” he said.

David Mark Decries Rising Insecurity in Benue, Urges Federal Action

Former Senate President, David Mark, has voiced strong concern over the worsening security situation in Benue State, describing the ongoing killings as “senseless, tragic, and unacceptable.”

In a statement issued on Monday in Kano by his Special Adviser on Media, Paul Mumeh, Mark urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to curb the violence and restore peace in the state.

“The primary duty of any government is to ensure the welfare and security of its people,” Mark said. “This is the unfortunate reality confronting the people of Benue. Government must rise to its responsibility.”

The former Senate President called on the Federal Government to fulfill its constitutional duty of safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens, particularly those living in violence-prone areas.

New Borno Police Commissioner Declares War on Corruption, Vows Ethical Policing
By Tada Jutha, Maiduguri

The Borno State Police Commissioner, Naziru Adulmajid, has read a riot act to police officers and men on corruption, human rights abuse, and other unethical conduct while performing their duties in the state.

The riot act is inevitable to relentlessly sustain and improve the gains recorded in the fight against crime, insurgency, and other threats to public safety.

Addressing the about 180 policemen yesterday in Maiduguri, Abdulmajid, the 43rd new Police Chief stated, “This command under my leadership will adopt a professional, intelligence-led, and community-orientated policy approach,” adding that the adoption of the approach will address the unique security challenges, including insurgency and kidnapping in Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region.
