THE PRINCIPLE OF OPINION
“The more you know the better the quality of your opinion”.
When President GEJ was contesting for second term in office, some people said that, the doubt they had concerning him was that, providence brought him into the office, and that he wasn't actually prepared. Whether that’s a fact or not, I cannot tell. It’s an opinion.
But here is what I have to say, you don't prepare IN the Game, you prepare FOR the Game. And it is the level of your preparedness that determines your degree of performance. That’s a fact.
For me President GEJ was credible and truly meant well for Nigeria, but that was not enough.
Piloting the affairs of Nigeria as a President takes more than good intentions and credibility. It takes capacity, and I mean real capability – a capable hand who had gathered experience and energy preparing for the task years ahead. It’s an opinion
And on another hand, looking at president (PMB) who took over from president GEJ, some people were never comfortable with his age and health status which has a lot of impact in his decision-making responsibilities, especially in a country full of complex interests like Nigeria.
Think about this - if professors in the university who are known for extreme brain work activities are required to retire at the age of 70 statutorily, how much more the President.
Nigeria is even more than an institution; it is a world on its own. Ideally, men above the age of 70 should be greeted Goodnight, and not Good morning. It’s an opinion.
Friends, if the future of a country is the pictures the citizens are looking at, then candidates who are not prepared and do not fit in into the times and seasons should not even be considered as options.
If I have my way, I'll ensure that entities void of those great identities and credentials are shown the way out.
Again, as at today in Nigeria, we have President BAT whom some people believed did not meet the constitutional requirement to have been declared as the winner of the last presidential elections.
But he is the President of the FRN for now, because the apex court of the country upheld his victory after series of litigations. Most people may not agree with the verdict. It’s an opinion.
However, these are all opinions, whether personal opinion or public opinion. But to get the best out of situations or circumstances you must seek to know more.
“Opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance” - Plato.
Someone said: “Every man should periodically be compelled to listen to opinions which are infuriating to him. To hear nothing but what is pleasing to one is to make a pillow of the mind. To be absolutely certain about something, one must know everything or nothing about it.”
The thing is, the more you know the better the quality of your opinion. When options are limited, the outcome will definitely be limited. Because you have to decide and make a choice from what is available.
In a situation where one is wavering between 2 or 3 opinions as most Nigerians have always been during an election. The way to go is to seek to know more before you form your personal opinion and then take your decisions.
We are all entitled to our opinions.
