BREAKING NEWS: Former CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido reinstated as Emir of Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has on Thursday, approved the reappointment of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 14th Emir of Kano.

Yusuf also gave five former Emirs 48 hours to vacate all official residence and hand over former emirate properties to Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftains.

Recall that Sanusi fell out with ex-governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and was dethroned.

Ganduje, on December 5, 2019 established Bichi, Gaya, Karaye and Rano emirates from the then Kano Emirate.

Ganduje assented to an amendment to law on October 14, 2020, and signed another amendment on April 11, 2023.

Section 3(1) of the law established five distinct emirates. They include Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye.

Kano and Karaye have eight local government areas of jurisdiction each, while Bichi and Gaya emirates share nine local government areas of jurisdiction each.

Meanwhile, Rano Emirate enjoys jurisdiction over 10 local government areas out of the 44 local councils in the state.

However, after assessing the emirates, Kano State House of Assembly, on Thursday, dethroned the five emirs and abolished the five emirates in the state.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, on Tuesday, said that he did not start governing the state fully until February 2024.

Though he assumed office in May, Fubara said he did not start taking decisions until February this year – eight months after taking office.

He made the comment while inaugurating Egbeda internal roads in the Emohua Local Government Area of the state.

He said since he started confronting governance fully in February, he had done remarkably well and earned the commendation of the people.

Fubara has been embroiled in a political crisis with his predecessor and estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike.

Last October, he survived an impeachment plot by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Wike.

His words: “We are just starting but I assure you more attention. If in four months we can do this, and we are getting this level of applause, you can imagine what will happen when we do one year of our record time and two years of our own record time. Rivers State would have experienced something different from the regular governance.

“I know why I said four months. We started full governance in February 2024. That was when we started making decisions when we started confronting governance. And I am proud to say that our people are happy with what we have done.

“What we want to do is to bring governance to our people, service delivery at record time, and in a cost-effective way.”

A Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded social critic and vlogger, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman in police custody after the Nigeria Police Force opposed his bail application.

VeryDarkMan was arraigned on five counts bordering on cyberstalking. The case was adjourned to next Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

The police prosecuting team told Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court that they needed more time to respond to application and they were obliged by the court.

The police prosecution moved to have the blogger remanded in prison custody but his lawyers made an application for him to be kept in detention.

The court granted their request and he was subsequently taken to the National Cybercrime Centre.

Recently, VeryDarkMan condemned the Nigerian police for not arresting controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

VeryDarkMan in recent videos condemned the award of Best Dressed Female to the cross-dresser at a Nollywood event.

However, the Nigeria Police Force said at that time that it could not arrest Bobrisky because there was no law against cross-dressing in the country and that there was no proof that he was engaging in same-sex relations.

The minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, stated this on Friday while inspecting some of the projects in preparation for inauguration to celebrate Tinubu’s one year in office.

“By the approval of Mr President, we believe that from May 27, we shall begin the inauguration of various projects and will end on June 6,” Wike said.

“Particularly on May 27, President Tinubu will inaugurate commercial operations of the Abuja Light Rail also known as Abuja Metro Line, and we will carry out the final inspection of the project on May 20. From what we have seen, I think we are good to go.”

Wike also expressed confidence that the Vice-President’s residence, located along A*o Drive, would be completed and may be inaugurated on June 6.

He explained that the 9-day inauguration activities would demonstrate to the world the Tinubu-led administration’s determination to renew the hope of Nigerians.

“We have a lot of projects being executed that will be inaugurated. So many projects that I cannot begin to list them,” Wike said.

“We are happy; the contractors are meeting up, and all the promises made they have fulfilled.

“We have also fulfilled our own part, by making sure that we make the needed cash available and none of the contractors is complaining in terms of cash.”

The minister noted that other projects like the construction of bus terminals and the FCT Court of Appeal Division and other projects would be inaugurated within the period.

On the non-functionality of some of the streetlights in parts of the city, Wike explained that some of the streetlights were being worked on, while others were being tested.

He assured the residents that the streetlights would come on once the contractors finished working on them.
