On today's Episode of *ACTING FACTS* let's learn about:
*YOUR BASIC TOOLS*
Every skill, profession, trade and art has their own tools. Painters have their brushes; carpenters have their hammers; stylists have their scissors.
ACTORS ARE NO EXCEPTION!
Actors have three basic tools always at their disposal.
Proper understanding and implementation of this tools would help you create a beautiful character in any play
Here are your tools
¶ Voice
¶ Body
¶ Imagination
*1. VOICE*
“An actor’s voice is a versatile and creative tool capable of explaining characters, moods and events"
An actor’s voice can be used to express their innermost thoughts through monologue, or soar through a gorgeous aria or ballad. Actors can create sound effects and soundscapes through their voices.
A whisper or a shout used effectively can pull an audience in and have them stuck till the end of the play
An actor's voice can explain a happy or sad mood even to the blind.
Ever heard of Radio Drama? There are no visual components but it depends on dialogue, music and sound effects to help the listener imagine the characters and story:
How do you think the audience gets the message with no sight... It's pretty simple, the VOICE does the magic
_“Can you say the word ‘love’ and fill it with the sound of love? Can you say the word ‘angry’ and fill it with rage?”_
Get creative with you voice tool and win over your audience forever
*2. BODY*
Does your body express your dramatic intention?
“When you free the body and it starts to work in conjunction with the lines, your acting becomes extremely relatable”
We, as actors, place far too much emphasis on what is being said, and not what the body is doing in a scene. Whereas, effective control and expression of the body is fundamental to outstanding acting.
“The body can tell a story without any dialogue at all.”
Can you depict a dead character by blocking it to jump or dance 😂
Doesn't make any sense right? There's no dialogue that would convince your audience that the character is dead.
But imagine the character laid down, and people crying, you need no dialogue to explain what has just happened.
