One thing I’ve recently learned with our on going hot weather is that you do not have to limit yourself to growing house plants that require shade outdoors , but instead adapt your garden and plant choices based on the shade or sunlight conditions it receives.

If you garden is very shady, then grow houseplants, aroids, leafy shade loving plants

If your garden has no shade and is exposed to the sun ( like many urban gardens ) then grow more of sun loving plants, like this Potulaca and succulents.

Your garden should also be based on your personal requirements. For example if you do not have access to water, or perhaps have a balcony or veranda where you can’t water often or even want to . Then stick to drought tolerant plants.

It’s important to have a practical garden that works for you rather than collecting plants because they are unique, popular or rare .

More will be revealed in my upcoming outdoor gardening workshop.

Hope you’re having a lovely day

Hoya’s and I used to be besties, and I used to grow them easily and beautifully. However that has not been the case anymore. All changed when I moved houses a year ago. I have not been able to replicate what it is that made them thrive in my previous place, most of my Hoya have been on a decline and I have lost quite a lot .

However these lot are still hanging in there , they aren’t exactly as lush as they once used to be but atleast they are alive.

Hoya Kerri
Hoya Pubicalyx
Hoya Kerri Varigated
Hoya Siggilatis wide form
Hoya Merrilli
Hoya Obovata

Which is your favorite?

My dears who have never received flowers ( yes guys love flowers too ) this one is for us , grow your own flowers. That’s the awesome thing about having a garden.

Grow tropical flowers for best results, leave all these awon rose and azalea and grow flowers that do best in the tropics, you will get blooms constantly with less hassle.

Last slide is the flower I’m growing for my ex 🤭, if you know you know 🤣

Lately I’ve had a very strong desire to build my own home . It’s been such a mindset shift. I used to think of renting a space and making a home out of it, now I strongly crave buying a plot of land and building a quaint bungalow surrounded by cascading plants, tall trees, and bursting with so much natural light with vibrant colourful flowers and the sound of birds constantly.

Now that the seed has been sown in my mind , I know it’s only a matter of time

Ladies and gentlemen, making her official debut , the Monstera Thai Constellation!!

I waited YEARS to have this plant and the Lord finally did it . Worth the weight!

She’s been growing beautifully and this new leaf is the biggest and best one she has put out . I can just imagine how big she will be in the coming months. I’m excited 😆

Just a regular day in Lagos. The heat in this city is alarming. A consequence of a lack of trees and a preference for cement and interlocking.

The weather is only going to get worse if we do not do something about it . Please share , tag the relevant authorities. Legislation needs to draw up and enact laws that mandates all homes have trees or a garden, truly and honestly this is what we need .

The star of yesterday’s reel, the Philodendron Brandtianum! Look how the wood elevates her! Was totally worth picking it up and not turning into a tuber of yam lol

But back to our Philodendron, I remember how I fantasized for ages about owning this plant and spent quite a lot to have one, and now that I have one, I’ve been neglecting it 😭.

So much so that this plant is nearly a year in my care and it hasn’t grown much, why ? Because it’s been root bound for long and I kept leaving it to stay dry for way too long. Anyhoo that is about to change, she’s been given a bigger pot , fresh soil and a cute rustic pole climb on .

Forgive me my child, I shall not neglect you again lol.
