GOV. FUBARA CONGRATULATES RSIEC CHAIRMAN AND MEMBERS

The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, has extended his congratulations to the newly inaugurated Chairman and members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

Governor Fubara expressed confidence in the Commission’s capacity to conduct free, fair, and credible local government elections in the state in the days ahead. He charged the Commission to uphold the principles of neutrality and to ensure a level playing field for all interested candidates and political parties.

The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, plans to visit the Port Harcourt Maximum Security Custodial Centre for a jail delivery exercise.

A statement by the Chief Registrar of the Rivers State High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi, said the exercise, scheduled for July 17, 2025, is in line with the Criminal Justice Law. The statement also mentioned that the Chief Judge approved the deployment of magistrates to sit at the Degema and Ahoada Custodial Centres today, tomorrow, and on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, to help decongest the centres.

In October 2024, the then Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dagogo Iboroma, revealed that more than 20,000 inmates were awaiting trial at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.
