The fifth and final day of voting on whether to join Russia in four Ukrainian regions partially controlled by Moscow - Kherson, Luhansk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia - has arrived.

The Foreign Ministry of Israel stated on Tuesday that Israel "recognizes Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," as Russia holds its fifth and final day of referendums in preparation for annexing four Ukrainian regions.

Israel "Will not accept the results of the referendum in Ukraine's eastern districts," Israel said in a rare rebuke of Moscow. Russia held referendums on whether four Ukrainian regions - Kherson, Luhansk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia - should join Russia.

The Bayelsa State Police Command paraded a suspected kidnap ringleader, John Ewa, alias John Lion, at the Police Officers Mess in Yenagoa on Monday.

The command also paraded ten other suspects who were arrested for crimes ranging from cultism to murder, armed robbery, illegal possession of fi****ms, and pipeline vandalism.

Ewa, 30, was paraded with three members of his gang, identified by police as Emmanuel Angase, Innocent Kingsley, and Timi Werikumo.

Ben Okolo, the state Commissioner of Police, said they were apprehended for allegedly kidnapping Akeem Olushola on December 8, 2020, and Danjuma Emeje on June 30, 2022.

He stated that Ewa, Angase, Kingsley, and Werikumo were apprehended "after arduous investigation," while another suspect, Gbalipre Gamage, remained at large.

Ex-aide to the Ogun government sentenced to five years in prison in the United States

Abidemi Rufai, the suspended aide to Ogun State Governor Dayo Abiodun, was sentenced to five years in prison for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft by a District Court in Western Tacoma, Washington, United States.

The United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Washington confirmed this in a statement issued on Monday.

According to the statement, Rufai, "a 45-year-old resident of Lekki, Nigeria, was sentenced today in United States District Court in Tacoma to five years in prison for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft for his attempt to steal nearly $2.4 million from the United States government, including approximately $500,000 in pandemic-related unemployment benefits,"

Rufai worked as a Special Assistant to the Governor of Ogun State until his arrest.
