BREAKING: Police Rescue Ex-Minister's Sister and Her Twin Sons After Gun Battle in Ibadan

In a dramatic rescue operation that ended in a gun battle, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully freed Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, who were kidnapped in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The mother and her children were abducted on the morning of Tuesday, June 3, 2026, while she was driving the boys to school , a routine that turned into a nightmare no family should ever experience.

For three tense days, security operatives worked around the clock, gathering intelligence and monitoring the movements of the kidnappers. Their efforts culminated in a coordinated tactical operation carried out by the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) in Ibadan at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

During the rescue operation, a confrontation broke out between FID-IRT operatives and the suspected kidnappers. Two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded and two rifles were recovered at the scene. Mrs. Adegoke and her twin sons were rescued unharmed.

The family are currently in safe custody and receiving medical care and support.

The Inspector-General of Police has commended the professionalism and bravery of the FID-IRT operatives and all officers involved in the operation, describing their commitment as instrumental to the safe outcome.

Security operatives have since intensified efforts in the area to track down fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate. Preliminary intelligence indicates that some suspects escaped with gunshot wounds, and operations are actively ongoing to arrest and prosecute all those involved.

The Nigeria Police Force has also appreciated the public for their cooperation and patience throughout the operation.

This story was confirmed through an official press release signed by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, and sourced from the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu's official page.

LASCOPA, SRADev partnership to eliminate lead from consumer products
By Blackcat Report
The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, LASCOPA, and Sustainable Research and Action for Environmental Development, SRADev Nigeria, have strengthened partnership towards eliminating lead from paints, batteries, cosmetics and consumable products circulating in the Lagos marketplace.
This was disclosed in a post on the verified X page of the Lagos State Government on Wednesday.

The development followed a high-level meeting between the General Manager of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, Esq., and the Programme Manager of the Lead Exposure Elimination Project, LEEP, and Executive Director of SRADev Nigeria, Dr. Leslie Adogame, at the Agency's Allen Avenue office in Lagos.
Both parties mapped out strategies for consumer education, public advocacy, research and enforcement initiatives to protect Lagos residents from the dangers of lead-containing and other unsafe consumer products.
The partnership is also expected to enhance public awareness and promote safer consumption practices across the state.
Speaking at the meeting, Solebo reaffirmed LASCOPA's commitment to protecting consumers' rights and ensuring that products in the marketplace meet established safety standards.

He expressed the Agency's readiness to work closely with SRADev Nigeria in advancing environmental health and consumer protection objectives.

Members of the SRADev delegation present included the Policy Manager, Jeremiah Ato; Programme Manager, Victor Fabunmi; and Data Analyst, Muoka Precious Debem.

Fuel subsidy removal saved Nigeria from bankruptcy - Tinubu
By Blackcat Report

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday said the removal of fuel subsidy by his administration saved the country from imminent bankruptcy and laid the foundation for the gradual recovery of the nation’s economy.
In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu made this known when he hosted state governors who came to celebrate Sallah and the third anniversary of the administration with him.

In attendance were the Governors of Lagos, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Taraba, Niger, Ekiti, Delta, Ondo, Edo, Adamawa, Benue, Enugu, Ogun, and Kogi States, as well as the deputy governors of Borno and Kano.

President Tinubu acknowledged that the decision to remove the subsidy was difficult and painful for many Nigerians, but stressed that it became necessary to rescue the country from fiscal collapse and restore economic stability.
He said: "It was challenging at the time, but we survived. We face litigation and accusations. We survived them. Instead of bankruptcy, Nigeria has survived. The economy has recovered. It is growing. Agriculture is booming.

"Today I was watching some clips of the Sokoto -Badagry axis. Imagine how many dams on that corridor for irrigation, for farm land, for electricity. Well, many of you have survived and promoted the perseverance of many of our people, asking them to trust this government, and you have built that trust around one person: my leadership. I thank you very much’’ the President said.

President Tinubu also thanked Nigerians for their patience, resilience and understanding, assuring them that the difficult phase was gradually yielding positive outcomes.

The President said ongoing reforms in infrastructure, agriculture, social investment, foreign exchange management and fiscal discipline were beginning to restore investor confidence and improve economic prospects.

President Tinubu also commended the Governors for their cooperation, support and commitment to national development, noting that the partnership between the federal and state governments played a vital role in stabilising the economy.

`` I'm glad governors are no longer borrowing from the federal government and asking for interventions and not knowing how to survive, how to pay salaries, no more. You kept the spirit, you kept the hope. You persuaded our people to be patient and endure these three years of painful reform, during which we put the economy on a reset. Today, the benefits are showing.
`
"The economy has recovered. Macroeconomic indices are doing very well. Construction is ongoing on roads and infrastructure; the ones abandoned have been rehabilitated.

"The housing industry is coming on very well. Agriculture will prosper again. We will achieve food sovereignty if we utilise the land that is in your possession and in your various states effectively,’’ he said.

The President assured Nigerians that his administration would continue to implement people-oriented policies aimed at reducing hardship, creating jobs, strengthening food security and ensuring inclusive economic growth.

Vice President Kashim Shettima commended the President's doggedness, tenacity and courage in confronting corruption in Nigeria's oil industry in the name of the fuel subsidy.

`` Your Excellency, Mr President, this is the essence of your leadership. You did not come to power in the season of ease. You came at a time when the house required more than a canter. It required a builder with the courage to examine the foundation you inherited.

``In that defining hour, you choose not to postpone the surgery. You choose not to massage the wound. You choose to confront the contradictions that have held this country hostage for 50 years; that is the miracle of your courage.

China's Kung Fu Monk sentenced to 24 yrs in prison
By Blackcat Report with agency report

The man who led one of China's most iconic religious sites for decades has fallen from grace in dramatic fashion.

Shi Yongxin, the former abbot of the legendary Shaolin Temple — birthplace of kung fu — has been sentenced to 24 years in prison and fined 3.5 million yuan (approximately $517,000 USD) by a court in Henan Province, central China.

The 60-year-old monk was convicted of embezzlement, misappropriation of funds, and bribery crimes that courts say totalled around 300 million yuan (roughly $44 million USD) accumulated over nearly three decades.

Perhaps most striking, the investigation revealed he had allegedly violated Buddhist precepts by maintaining improper relationships with multiple women over a long period, a serious breach for someone in his position.

Shi, who became a monk in 1981 and led Shaolin Temple from 1987 before being appointed abbot in 1999, pleaded guilty and told the court he would not appeal.

The Buddhist Association of China, which had swiftly revoked his monastic certificate when investigations began last July, responded to the sentencing with just six words: "He brought it on himself."

A reminder that no title no matter how ancient or revered is above accountability.

Temu to pay 200million pounds for illegal sale of products
By Blackcat Report

Chinese shopping giant, Temu has been hit with a €200 million ($232 million) fine by EU regulators for failing to prevent the sale of illegal products on its platform.

The fine — only the second ever issued under the EU's Digital Services Act — comes after a nearly two-year investigation. Regulators found that Temu wasn't doing enough to identify and manage the risks of illegal goods being sold to European consumers.

Temu disagrees with the decision, calling the fine "disproportionate," and says its current systems are much improved since the 2024 assessment the ruling is based on.

But this might not be the end of it. More penalties could follow as investigators continue looking into whether Temu's platform is designed to be addictive and whether it's properly sharing data with researchers.

Temu has until August 28 to submit an action plan showing how it will comply.

For context — companies can be fined up to 6% of their global annual turnover for breaching the DSA. The EU is clearly not playing around.

Ed Sheeran exits Warner Music Group after 15yrs
By Blackcat Report

English singer and songwriter, Edward Christopher Sheeran otherwise known as Ed Sheeran has revealed in a newsletter to fans on May 22 that he parted ways with Atlantic Records and Asylum Records last month, ending a 15–year partnership that produced eight studio albums and 170 million album sales worldwide.
He said: “This isn’t a ‘disgruntled artist leaves record label’ type situation.
"This is a boy who started as a teenager on the company with different priorities, to the father of 2 man who exists now, who feels like he needs a shift and change in the way he does things professionally.”

Sheeran said the split was amicable adding, “I leave the company with SO much love and gratitude for everything we have achieved together.
“I love Ed Howard forever, I love Asylum forever, and the door is always open for the future.

“Thank you everyone across Warner worldwide who has worked on my projects over the last 15 years, it’s been an incredible journey.

“Excited to see where the next 15 years takes me," he added.

Meanwhile, Warner Music Group will continue to release Sheeran’s catalog, which spans eight studio albums from 2011’s Plus through to 2025’s Play and encompasses 126 billion global streams, 38 billion YouTube views, and 14 tracks in Spotify‘s Billions Club according to data from music week.
