صمود (Ṣumūd) - Resilience
Only God could create something so vast that it belongs to no single nation, yet holds them all.
The Sahara stretches across 11 countries: Egypt, Algeria, Chad, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Sudan, Western Sahara and Tunisia.
One desert with eleven borders and an endless sky, that is not just geography.
That is God showing off.
And within this great expanse lives one of the world’s most quietly remarkable peoples, the Tuareg. Known as the Blue People of the Sahara, named for the deep indigo dye that stains both their robes and their skin which is their identity.
A mark of endurance.
Here is what most people do not know in traditional Tuareg culture, it is the man who wears the veil, not the woman. A striking, beautiful inversion.
So I dressed this child in blue. A quiet nod to the documentaries that brought the Tuareg people to my domain and the color that carries a whole people’s story on its fabric.
This is the Sahara that is ancient, borderless and resilient.
