Mitochondria Gallery is pleased to announce “STRIDE,” a debut solo exhibition by Rwandan impasto artist, Izere Antoine (b. 1996). Izere Antoine studied Sculpture and Ceramics at the Nyundo School of Art.
The exhibition features paintings of Black women in Africa and the African Diaspora. STRIDE celebrates the progress that women have made across the globe. For centuries, women have played a pivotal role in ensuring the advancement of our communities. The exhibition acknowledges the significant strides that women have made in our society. Izere Antoine explores this concept in a series of portraits and figurative paintings. In this body of work, Antoine tells stories of past and present using layers of paint to create textural dimensions that convey physical as well as theoretical depth.
STRIDE opens on March 18, 2022. 2101 Winter Street, Houston TX 5pm-9pm
