GOV ALIA CHAMPIONS PEACE AND PROSPERITY, DISTRIBUTES OIL PALM STANDS TO BENUE YOUTH
Makurdi, September 9, 2025.
Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has called on Benue youth to eschew violence in politics and instead concentrate on the myriad empowerment opportunities available within the state.
Governor Alia made this declaration on Monday in Makurdi during the official commissioning of the Benue Youth House and the distribution of 4,000 oil palm stands to young people across the state.
Deputy governor, His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Sam Ode, mni, who represented the governor said "His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has directed me to inform all of us that violence in politics has no place in this administration. We are committed to fostering a peaceful environment where our youth can thrive."
Deputy governor Ode highlighted the administration’s efforts in promoting peace and youth development, noting that "Benue youth are inherently peace-loving and resilient."
He also reiterated the government’s philosophy of "teaching youth how to fish," exemplified by the oil palm stands distribution initiative.
"The oil palm revolution of the Alia administration is geared towards empowering our youth. It aims to reach all the 276 wards of the state, providing sustainable empowerment that can lift our youth out of poverty and enable them to make independent decisions," he explained.
He praised the leadership of Hon. Terver Gbenda, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Organisation and Illegal Levies, describing him as a grassroot mobiliser, passionate and committed to the cause.
Dr. Ode further acknowledged the vibrancy of Benue talented artists, assured them of ongoing support for the creative industry, and promised that their demands for musical equipments, additional operational vehicles and provision of youth offices across the 23 local government areas of the state would be duly communicated to the governor.
Benue State APC Chairman, Dr. Benjamin Omale, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to Governor Hyacinth Alia for his steadfast support for youth, and commended his commitment to developmental programmes, aimed at improving the livelihoods of the youth of the state.
Dr. Omale also affirmed the party's strong confidence in the youth, urging them not to be swayed by superficial gifts, but stay focused, and work diligently toward the governor's reelection in 2027.
Earlier, Hon. Terver Gbenda, in his welcome address, appreciated the governor’s efforts in empowering Benue youth through employment programmes, subsidised farm implements, free oil palm stands for agricultural participation, and donation of buses to facilitate movement.
He pledged the loyalty of Benue youth to the Alia administration and assured their full support for his reelection in 2027.
The most significant moment of the event was the inauguration of the Governor Alia Youth House, celebrated with an inspiring ceremony. Following this, the Governor presented 4,000 oil palm stands to youth representatives from all 23 local government areas, symbolising support and promoting sustainable empowerment for the next generation.
