You never truly know people until money enters the picture. That’s why I find it funny when people automatically describe those struggling financially as humble or exceptionally good. Sometimes, it’s not humility it’s simply lack of opportunity and power.
A lot can hide under poverty: pride, selfishness, bitterness, even wickedness. Money has a way of revealing character, not creating it.
Calling someone humble when they’ve never really had access to wealth or influence can be misleading. Wait until life places abundance, comfort and power in their hands that’s when character is truly tested.
And honestly, some people who experienced deep poverty and later escaped it can become unexpectedly harsh toward others. Not everyone, of course, but it happens more often than people admit.
Real humility is not about lacking money; it’s about remaining kind, grounded, and humane even when you finally have every reason to feel powerful. 👌🏻
