Concern Citizens Beg Governor Agbu Kefas to Fulfil Promise on the Dualization of Serti-Gembu and Zing-Wukari Road
Residents and concern citizens from across Taraba State have called on Governor Agbu Kefas to fulfil his promises regarding the dualization of key road networks in the state — notably the Bali–Gembu and Zing–Wukari highways.
The roads, considered critical to the state’s economic integration and inter-regional connectivity, have long suffered from neglect, making travel difficult and posing safety risks to commuters and traders. During the 2023 electioneering period, Governor Kefas pledged to prioritize the dualization of these major routes, emphasizing their importance to trade, tourism, and security, particularly in the Mambilla Plateau and southern Taraba regions.
However, more than a year since he made the promise, into, citizens say no visible work has commenced on the roads. The lack of progress has drawn concern from residents, commercial transporters, and traditional leaders who argue that improved infrastructure is essential to the state’s development agenda.
“We are appealing to the governor to keep his promise. The Bali to Gembu road is the economic backbone of the Mambilla region, and we expected construction to begin by now,” said Alhaji Musa Ibrahim. “The current state of the road is a nightmare, especially during the rainy season.”
A similar sentiment was echoed by residents along the Zing–Wukari axis, where several communities have been isolated due to deteriorating road conditions.
Many citizens remain hopeful that the governor will act swiftly, especially with his stated commitment to infrastructure and regional equity. Stakeholders are now calling on the state government to provide a timeline for implementation or give a public update on the status of the road projects.
