FUGUS Governing Council Appoints Hajiya Nafisa Suleiman as First Female Registrar

The Governing Council of the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS), Zamfara State, has approved the appointment of Hajiya Nafisa Barau Suleiman as the third substantive Registrar of the University. The decision was made during the Council’s 29th Meeting held from Tuesday, April 22nd to Friday, April 25th, 2025, in Abuja.

Hajiya Nafisa, who holds an M.A. in English Language from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), becomes the first female Registrar in the 12-year history of the institution.

Prior to her confirmation, she served as Acting Registrar following the completion of the tenure of her predecessor, Malam Yakubu Anivbassa, on February 4th, 2025. Until her appointment, she was also the Deputy Registrar in the Office of the Vice Chancellor, where she was “responsible for the day-to-day administration and related activities of the office,” according to the bulletin.

The Management further highlighted that Hajiya Nafisa “is expected to bring her wealth of administrative and allied experience to bear positively on the running of the exalted office,” reflecting her years of service in various administrative capacities, including her time as Faculty Officer of the former Faculty of Humanities and Education and as Head of Staff Development.

In its statement, the University Management wished her well, praying for “Allah’s support and guidance in the discharge of the responsibilities attached to the office.”

SRC, SRA ELECTIONS: FUGUS Releases Official Guidelines and Opens Nominations

The management of Federal University Gusau has officially released the available positions, guidelines, and price details for the upcoming Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and Students’ Representative Assembly (SRA) elections.

According to a memo released and signed by the ELCOM Secretary, the statement reads:
“This is to inform all interested returning students that forms for various elective positions into SRC/SRA offices are available at the Dean, Students’ Affairs Division from Thursday, 17th April 2025 to Saturday, 26th April 2025.”

The election is open to students who have spent at least one full academic session at the university. The released guidelines outline the rules and regulations of the election process, including eligibility criteria, campaign conduct, and voting procedures.

FUGUS Declares Exam-Free Day on May 3rd for Student Elections

The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has officially declared Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, as an examination-free day.

This announcement was made in a memo signed by the Dean of Students’ Affairs, which states,
“This is to inform all undergraduate students that Saturday, 3rd May 2025, has been declared as an examination-free day. This is to enable students to have enough time to actively participate in the forthcoming SRC/SRA election, scheduled to hold on the same day.”

Furthermore, the memo added that all affected examinations have been rescheduled and distributed across the remaining examination period. Students are therefore advised to carefully check the updated timetable to identify the new dates for their respective exams.
