ZAMFARA RAM SELLERS LAMENT POOR SALES AHEAD OF SALLAH.

--Jamilu Isah Gusau

The Chairmen of rams and goats sellers associations in Gusau and Kotorkoshi towns have lamented the drop in prices of sacrificial animals this year.

The Chairmen made the lamentation while answering questions from The Legacy Weekly correspondent at the livestock Markets in Gusau and Kotorkoshi towns.Alhaji Gambo Jimeta, said that with less than a week to Eid-el-Kabir, prices of sacrificial animals were still low

A market survey conducted by the Legacy Weekly Newspaper, at the Kwatarkwashi, Bungudu and Gusau livestock markets reveals that the markets have been flooded with sacrificial animals in anticipation of increased patronage.

The Chairman also said that besides rams, other domestic animals like: sheep, goats, cows, and camels of various sizes and prices, were brought to the market to meet customers satisfaction.

He explained that rams now sell for between N150,000 and N250,000, camel, N500,000 to N3 million, while bulls and cows sell for between N500,000 and N2 million, depending on size, weight, and quality, adding that the price of Sheep was N160,000, to N190,000, goat, N100,000, to N120,000 and billy goat N120,000 to N150,000

Our correspondent also gathered that prices of the animals have risen significantly compared to last year, forcing many prospective buyers to either postpone buying or opt for smaller animals based on their purchasing power.

On his part, the Chairman of Rams Sellers Association Kwatarkwashi Alhaji Abubakar said that in spite of availability of animals required for sacrifice, patronage had remained relatively low due to the current economic situation.

The Chairman explained that, the increase in livestock prices was largely driven by the high cost of animal feed and transportation of the animals within and outside the state.

“Last year, a bag of animal feed sold for between N10,000 and N13,000, now costs about N25,000 per bag," he added.

“Transportation fares have also increased considerably, and all these expenses ultimately affect the final selling price,” he said.

Earlier Speaking, the Sarkin Zango of Zamfara State, Alh. Lawali Abdullahi, attributed the poor patronage to the current economic hardship facing many Nigerians.

He explained that many buyers now prefer to delay their purchases until a few days or even a day before Eid-el-Kabir, hoping prices might drop.

However, he expressed optimism that prices could drop slightly as the festive period draws nearer and competition among traders intensifies

UPHOLD ISLAMIC UNITY, IGNORE POLITICAL RIVALRY -Imam Kurah Admonishes Muslims.

The Chief Imam of 2nd Juma'at Mosque Kotorkoshi, in Zamfara State, Imam Musa Kura has admonished Muslims to remain united and rise above political divisions.
The Imam gave the advice last Friday in a Juma'at sermon explaining that Prophet Muhammad SAW has said that; a Muslim is a brother to a Muslim.
He wondered why a Muslim should kill or maim his fellow Muslim due to political difference.
Kurah noted with dismay that relationships had been severed, a lot of marriages and business transactions collapsed as a result of political polarity.
The Islamic scholar further said; as elections were approaching, there was need for political leaders and candidates seeking for election into political offices to be agents of peace and stability and not engineer killing or maiming of innocent citizens by their supporters.
According to him, Nigeria now needs people that preach peaceful coexistence among citizens and not those that would worsen its existing problems like poverty, violence and insecurity.
Imam Kurah also said, it is Allah that gives power to whom He wishes and seize it from whomever he wishes.
