NAME ZAMFARA PRINTING COMPANY AFTER LATE NABABA SANDA-MD Al'umma TV Calls on ZMSG
The Managing Director, Al'umma Television Gusau, Alhaji Bashir Sanda has called on Zamfara State Government to name Zamfara State Printing and Publishing company/Government Printing Press, publishers of The Legacy Weekly Newspaper after the founder of The Legacy Newspaper late Nababa Sanda.
Alhaji Bashir Sanda made the call while presenting a paper entitled The Legacy Weekly: Challenges and the Way Forward. Alhaji Sanda who presented the paper on the occasion of swearing in ceremony of the newly elected executives of NUJ Legacy Chapel said late Nababa Sanda had committed his resources and energy in plotting and nurturing of The Legacy Newspaper.
The Managing Director who commended Governor Dauda Lawal for reviving the paper noted with dismay how the paper degenerated to the lowest ebb.
He said for the paper to regain its glory, it should be funded properly by the government and be patronized by government ministries, agencies and departments.
Sanda who is the pioneer Managing Director of the paper called for a review of the Zamfara State Media Corporation Law to pave way for removal of The Legacy Weekly from the corporation saying considering peculiarity of a newspaper, it is not supposed to be folded in the corporation explaining that the Sokoto State newspaper The Path is not under the Sokoto State Media Corporation. Equally, Triumph Newspaper Kano is not under the Kano State Media Corporation
According to the MD, a standard newspaper is supposed to have an independent administrative structure with Managing Director, Managing Editor, editorial board and other administrative staff.
The presenter of the paper who lamented that emergence of social media had impacted negatively on print media opined that the soft copy of The Legacy Weekly should be complemented with hard copy even if it is twice in a month.
