The UN General Assembly passed two resolutions on Tuesday demanding Israel cease its illegal occupation of Palestinian and Syrian land.
The first resolution declares Israel’s ongoing occupation and de facto annexation of the Syrian Golan “illegal” and insists on a withdrawal to the pre-June 4, 1967, boundary.
It further asserts that Israel’s 1981 move to impose its own laws and administration on the Syrian Golan is “null and void and without any legal effect.”
The second resolution, concerning the “Peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine,” reaffirms the UN’s ongoing role in addressing the Palestinian issue.
It calls for an end to the occupation that began in 1967, reaffirms support for a two-state solution, and demands Israel stop all settlement construction.
It also urges countries not to recognize any altered borders and calls for expanded humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
