*Tension Eases in Kabba/Bunu as Security Operatives Nab Suspected Kidnappers and Killers of Okada Rider.*
For days, the people of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area were gripped with anxiety as news spread that a young commercial motorcyclist, Sunday Baba Tunde Joseph, had gone missing. His colleagues in the Okada Riders Association, Ayede Unit, raised the alarm after three days of fruitless search. The fear that he might have fallen victim to the same criminal gangs terrorizing the area soon became reality.
On Saturday, September 13, 2025, security operatives in Kabba recorded a major breakthrough. Acting on intelligence provided by okada riders, they swooped into action and arrested two suspects long believed to be behind a series of kidnappings, robberies, and killings in the area.
The first to fall into police net was Omonaye Victor, a man already on the police wanted list for several high-profile kidnapping cases. During interrogation, Victor confessed to killing the missing okada rider, Sunday Joseph, before disposing of his body in a river along Edumo Road in Kabba/Bunu.
The confession sent shockwaves through the community, confirming their worst fears but also bringing some closure to the family and friends of the victim.
Later, security operatives arrested Jinde Samuel, a 26-year-old resident of Kajola Quarters, behind Emmanuel Anglican Church, Kabba. Samuel, described as a notorious figure in the neighborhood, admitted being part of the gang responsible for the gruesome killing of Joseph.
With his arrest, investigators believe they are closer to unmasking the full network of criminals that have been terrorizing commercial motorcyclists and residents alike.
The arrests have sparked a mixture of relief and grief across Kabba/Bunu. Members of the Okada Riders Association, who had raised the initial alarm, described the late Sunday Joseph as a hardworking young man struggling to earn a living.
โThis is heartbreaking. He left home with his motorcycle to work, not knowing he was going into the hands of killers. But we thank the police for their swift action in tracking these people down,โ said one of the association leaders, who pleaded for anonymity.
Residents are also calling for justice and stronger security measures to deter such incidents in the future.
The Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area has in recent years faced a surge in crimes ranging from kidnapping to highway robbery, with okada riders often being easy targets. The latest arrest highlights both the vulnerability of commercial motorcyclists and the need for improved community-police collaboration.
Security officials have assured that the suspects remain in custody and will face the full weight of the law. The Divisional Police Officer of Kabba, while commending the vigilance of residents, urged the public to continue providing timely information to aid security operations.
For the family of late Sunday Joseph, the pain of losing a loved one remains fresh. But for the community, the capture of the suspected killers is a sign that the tide may finally be turning against the criminal elements that have long held Kabba/Bunu hostage.
