UCH NURSES JOIN NATIONWIDE WARNING STRIKE,URGE PATIENTS FOR UNDERSTANDING.

The University College Hospital, Ibadan chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, on Wednesday, joined the nationwide seven-day warning strike called by the national headquarters of the association.

The UCH NANNM branch commenced the strike after their congress, and appealed to patients to bear with them.

The branch chairperson of the association, Mrs Olufunmilola Faminu, explained that the strike was directed by the NANNM national headquarters after the Federal Government failed to meet their demands.

She said that the association had demanded employment of more nursing personnel, provision of adequate facilities for the various hospitals and directorate cadre for nurses at the Federal Ministry of Health.

Other demands made by the association, she said, were fair representation of the association at the Federal Ministry of Health, centralization of internship training for nurses, review of the allowances for nurses and Midwives, among others.

Faminu, who expressed concern about the patients, said it was not their intention to abandon them.

OGUN, OYO JOIN FORCES ON FOOD AND BORDER ISSUES.

Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has collaborated with his Oyo State counterpart, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to tackle food insecurity and ensure sufficient security in both states.

The closed-door engagement was held at the Oyo State Government House on Tuesday.

Abiodun, addressing reporters after the meeting, stressed the importance of the partnership by recalling the legacy of the old Western Region, where Ibadan served as the capital and Ogun was an integral part.

Abiodun noted that both states, sharing adjacent boundaries and similar agro-ecological zones, are uniquely positioned to drive a regional agricultural strategy that prioritizes local production, food sufficiency, and market integration.

The governors also spoke on targeted interventions across their border communities, including scaling up mechanized farming, aligning policy frameworks, and investing in cross-border rural infrastructure such as irrigation systems and feeder roads to facilitate agricultural logistics.

Meanwhile, the state helmsman acknowledged the contributions of the Southwest Security Network, also known as Amotekun, to the security architecture of the region through the provision of required intelligence and other security functions.
