DEREK
Derek started his legal career in his mid-twenties and after about a score and ten years, his net-worth had surpassed everyone in his grade.
The finest of attorneys in Ontario and neighbouring states recourse to the legal luminary for master strokes when ideas take flight.
The egghead makes courtrooms quake with ardent appearances and even meditates for nations.
On the surface, Derek is in the class of the successful. But deep within, several vital pieces are missing from his life.
He'd lost his parents and only sibling in a road crash at a very tender age; without a good guide, he grew to believe a lie from the pit of hell that says - 'to get to the peak in his career in law or amount to anything in life, he must belong to the Penguins Occult'.
Derek joined up in ignorance, became famous and amassed stupendous wealth, but nothing else worked in his life.
After two short-lived marriages with Casandra and Lilian, Derek left the marriage scene for the married. Both women think that nothing else matter to Derek other than his work and pursuit for money.
Bereaved of inner peace, Derek devolves into habits that point towards self- destruction. After work,he usually rocks the city in exotic cars with a retinue of strange women to keep his company.
Hopping into the city's Lounges, clubs and pubs for scotch and Ci**rs became a routine.
This lavish lifestyle swallows ample portion of his income, but Derek was more concerned about the immediate benefits it brings to him.
Derek had been on this matter for a while now, and victory is in view because the judge is likely to abjudicate the case for lack of merit, but on this sitting, something is evidently amiss.
His speech is flawed with spasmodic repetition. He is having a hard time articulating his thoughts and getting his arguments through.
Everyone in the courtroom is bewildered on seeing almighty Derek struggle to catch his breathe while he talked.
Moments later, his vision had become woozy. He blacks-out and his bulky body hits the ground before anyone could get close.
The emergency situation was rushed to Sensenbrenner health center.
Rumors went out that Derek was dead. The Medical Director pulled out of the Intensive Care Unit to clear the air and told the pressmen about the successful palpitations that jump-start Derek back to life and ongoing efforts to stabilize him.
At this point, Derek relied soley on an oxygen mask to breathe.
After two days, Derek is partially back on his feet. The Medical expert linked the cause of the renal failure to reckless living. Derek's kidneys have gone bad. He would be hospitalized for a while. The Medical Director made it clear that, if he opts for a surgery, his chance of survival is increasingly slim.
Alone in the Private Ward without a family or friend, Derek weeps. He picks a free copy of the Holy Bible that was donated to every bed in the clinic by a Charity organization as 'The Gideons' and perused it.
Not long into the scriptural readings, he felt an emptiness within that nothing in this world could fill. He knew he needed to reconnect with his maker.
His Bible believing care giver didn't hesitate to minister the word of God to him, and lead him to the safe life that is found only in Christ Jesus.
Derek is well aware that his days are numbered. Surgery was not the way to go,so the doctors gave their best to manage his condition.
The Lord extended Derek's life by four years even with the " bad kidneys".This defied all medical postulations .
Derek spent most of those days excitedly telling everyone he meets about Jesus Christ until the day he slept in the Lord.
