Oyo Speaker, Ogundoyin Backs Eruwa Veterinary Field Station Takeoff, Honoured at UI Induction

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has pledged strong financial and institutional support for the takeoff design of the Eruwa Veterinary Field Station, as part of broader efforts to strengthen veterinary education, food security, and agricultural development.

Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin made the commitment while chairing the 55th Oath-Taking and Induction Ceremony of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine graduands at the University of Ibadan.

Addressing the gathering, the Speaker described the ceremony as a defining moment that marks the transition from academic training to professional responsibility, stressing that the veterinary profession remains central to national development.

He maintained that food security and public health are inseparable pillars of economic stability, positioning veterinarians as critical actors in safeguarding both.

Speaking on the Eruwa Veterinary Field Station, Ogundoyin traced its origins to 1977, when over 2,000 acres of land were made available through the intervention of the late Oba Bolanle Olaniyan and the Eleruwa-in-Council.

He described the facility as a strategic asset capable of driving practical training, research innovation, and community engagement.

The Speaker noted, however, that the full potential of the station remains largely untapped, calling for deliberate and structured collaboration among government, academia, and stakeholders to reposition it as a functional hub of excellence.

To this end, he pledged handsome support towards the takeoff design phase and backed the constitution of a technical committee to develop a clear and implementable framework for the facility’s transformation into a centre for food safety, agricultural productivity, and economic advancement.

Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin further emphasised the need to reform veterinary education to reflect real-world demands, advocating for stronger emphasis on hands-on training, agribusiness knowledge, and value-chain integration.

In their separate remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Kayode Adebowale, and the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, B. O. Olugasa, commended the graduands and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and relevance in veterinary training.

Other stakeholders at the ceremony echoed the need for sustained investment and stronger partnerships to advance veterinary practice and enhance national food systems.

In recognition of his contributions and consistent support for the faculty, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin was presented with the Outstanding Leadership and Supporter of the Faculty Award.

The ceremony concluded with the formal induction of the graduands, who were charged to uphold the ethics of the profession and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Oyo PDP Elected Officials Pass Vote of Confidence in Gov Makinde, Pledge Unity and Strong Push For 2027

Elected officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State have unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde, commending his administration’s leadership, developmental strides, and commitment to the welfare of workers and pensioners across the state.

The endorsement was part of the resolutions reached at a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday at Jagz Hotel in the Iyaganku area of Ibadan.

The meeting brought together PDP elected representatives across various levels of government in the state, alongside key party leaders and stakeholders, to review the progress of governance under the PDP administration and deliberate on political developments within the party.

According to the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, and read by the State Party Chairman, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, the gathering also focused on strengthening internal cohesion within the party and reaffirming the collective commitment of stakeholders to the unity and continued success of the PDP in Oyo State.

After extensive deliberations and constructive contributions from participants, the stakeholders unanimously commended the Governor for prudent management of the state’s resources and his administration’s unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.

Stakeholders particularly praised the Makinde administration for prioritising the welfare of workers and pensioners through the regular and prompt payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities.

They noted that the administration had also cleared a backlog of gratuities inherited from previous governments amounting to over ₦36 billion.

The stakeholders further lauded the Governor’s assurance that all gratuities accruing during his tenure would be fully paid before the end of his administration, ensuring that no outstanding liabilities would be left for the next government.

The meeting further acknowledged the administration’s massive infrastructure development drive across the state, with special emphasis on the ongoing construction of the Ibadan Circular Road project, and the upgrade of Ladoke Akintola Airport to international standard.

Stakeholders noted that the project is expected to open up new economic corridors, stimulate investment opportunities, and drive unprecedented economic growth and development across the state.

During the deliberations, the stakeholders also discussed internal challenges affecting some zones and local government areas within the party.

The meeting assured party members that necessary steps would be taken to resolve the identified challenges and ensure sustained harmony across all zones and local government areas in the state.

Stakeholders further reaffirmed the unity, strength, and stability of the PDP in Oyo State, urging all party leaders and members to continue to work together in harmony while placing the collective interest of the party above individual ambitions.

In preparation for the 2027 general elections, the meeting resolved that all elected officials and party stakeholders would remain united under the umbrella of the PDP and work collectively to ensure the continued success of the party in Oyo State.

The meeting was attended by members of the House of Representatives including Hon. Adedeji Stanley Olajide, representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency; Hon. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, representing Ibarapa Central/North Federal Constituency; Hon. Oyesina Najimdeen Oyedeji, representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency; and Hon. Sunday Makanjuola, representing Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency.

Also in attendance was Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, representing Ibadan North State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly.

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, led all PDP members in the Assembly to the meeting, while the Oyo State Chairman of the PDP, Dayo Ogungbenro, led members of the State Executive, the State Working Committee, local government party executives, as well as the 33 Local Government Chairmen and party chairmen across the state to the stakeholders’ gathering.

The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge by all PDP elected officials and party leaders to uphold the ideals of unity, discipline, loyalty, and service to the people, while continuing to support the administration of Governor Makinde in delivering more dividends of democracy to the people of Oyo State.

Olubadan To Chair 2026 World Egungun Festival as Oyo Govt, Ijo Oje Parapo Intensify Preparations

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I, has accepted to serve as the Royal Father and Chairman of the 2026 World Egungun Festival, pledging his full support for the cultural programme as Oyo State intensifies preparations for the globally recognised event.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, made this known on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the monarch at his residence in Ibadan, where the Ministry’s management team formally invited him to chair the festival.

Olatubosun said the visit was also to appreciate the Olubadan’s consistent support for the Ministry’s programmes, even before his ascension to the throne, describing the monarch as a strong cultural ambassador whose influence would further elevate the festival’s prestige.

He disclosed that significant improvements have been made ahead of the 2026 edition to address concerns raised by the Olubadan during the 2025 festival, particularly regarding visibility and convenience for VIP guests.

The Commissioner revealed that no fewer than 200 masquerades are expected from within and outside Nigeria, with about 10 countries and over 100 groups and associations already indicating interest to participate in the festival in their colourful uniforms.

He also disclosed that the Honourable Minister of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has pledged attendance at the 2026 festival.

“We want Ibadan to become a major tourist destination and a cultural hub that the world will continually reckon with,” Olatubosun stated.

In his response, the Olubadan accepted the invitation and assured the delegation of his presence and support for the programme.

Meanwhile, as part of broader preparations for the festival, the Oyo State Government through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism also held a strategic meeting with leaders and key members of the Ijo Oje Parapo Welfare Association across various local government areas in the state.

The meeting, held at the Town Hall in the palace of the Akibio of Ilora, was aimed at strengthening collaboration and consolidating preparations for the 2026 World Egungun Festival, while addressing concerns raised after previous engagements.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Olatubosun explained that the renewed prominence of the Egungun Festival has continued to attract international attention, including Brazil, as the diaspora reconnects with the authentic custodians of the tradition in Oyo State.

He expressed optimism that with sustained efforts and proper packaging, the festival could secure UNESCO recognition within the next six years.

“We want to promote the entertainment and tourism potential of the festival to the world, but it is important that we take ownership of it and preserve its authenticity,” he said.

Also speaking, the Acting General Manager of the Oyo State Council for Arts and Culture, Mr. S.A. Agboola, appreciated the elders and members of the association for their cooperation, particularly during the 2025 edition which he described as mutually beneficial.

Agboola stressed the cultural and spiritual significance of the Egungun Festival, noting that Egungun stands prominently alongside Sango in traditional worship and community participation.

“You may not yet fully realise the value of the World Egungun Festival, but it stands out since its take-off in 2024 and has become a unifying traditional festival,” he said.

He added that the Ministry has been deliberate in reshaping misconceptions previously associated with the festival, particularly concerns about disorder and insecurity, assuring stakeholders that the issues raised at earlier meetings would be addressed.

Members of the Ijo Oje Parapo Association who spoke at the meeting emphasised the need for cleanliness, discipline and proper presentation of masquerades, while appealing for a more organised environment for the 2026 edition.

They also requested representation on the festival planning committee, which was approved.

The Commissioner further advised the association to organise a formidable youth body under the National Council for Isese Youth Organisation to ensure sustainability and structured participation of younger generations.
