Ramkaz Foundation Screens 110 Jago Residents, Moves Against Rising Hypertension

No fewer than 110 residents of Jago community in Ibadan, Oyo State, have benefited from a free medical outreach organised by the Ramkaz Foundation, with hypertension emerging as one of the major health concerns discovered during the exercise.

The community-based intervention focused on preventive healthcare, early detection and medical support, providing residents with free health screening, medical assessment, health education and assistance with prescribed medications.

According to the foundation’s assessment, approximately 30 per cent of the patients screened recorded elevated blood pressure or hypertension, while about 15 per cent were already taking prescribed antihypertensive medications.

Another 15 per cent of those attended to were identified as requiring further medical follow-up and monitoring.

However, no case of hyperglycaemia was recorded during the screening, while the remaining patients had blood pressure and blood sugar readings within the normal range at the time of assessment.

Beyond identifying health concerns, the foundation also provided support to patients who could not afford their prescribed medications.

Antihypertensive medications were provided to eligible patients where medically appropriate and in accordance with their prescribed treatment, helping residents who may otherwise have struggled to continue their medication.

Patients with borderline or elevated blood pressure readings were also counselled on the importance of regular monitoring, medication adherence, healthy lifestyle practices and seeking appropriate medical attention when necessary.

The outreach also featured health education sessions aimed at encouraging residents to take their health more seriously, particularly through regular blood pressure and blood sugar checks, early detection and timely medical intervention.

The foundation said it would continue to follow up with hypertensive patients identified during the exercise, with the aim of monitoring their progress, encouraging adherence to prescribed treatment and supporting appropriate referrals where further medical evaluation is required.

The Jago outreach is part of Ramkaz Foundation’s broader commitment to bringing accessible and preventive healthcare closer to underserved communities.

Oyo ADC Rejects Adegoke, Others, Says ‘They Were Never Our Candidates’

The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress in Oyo State deepened on Sunday as the state chapter of the party rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission’s display of the personal information and qualifications of some individuals listed as ADC candidates for the forthcoming elections.

The Oyo ADC described the affected candidates as “illegitimate,” insisting that their appearance on INEC’s platform did not confer legitimacy on their candidacy because, according to the party, they were not nominated by the recognised Oyo State structure of the ADC.

The latest position was reached at a stakeholders’ situation review meeting held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the party’s secretariat in Veterinary, Mokola, Ibadan.

The meeting brought together members of the State Executive Committee, Local Government Executive Committees from the 33 local government areas, party leaders and candidates contesting governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly seats.

In a communiqué signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Bimpe Adelowo, the party declared that the ADC structure led by Alhaji Yinka Olona remained the only legally recognised structure of the party in Oyo State.

The party said it would recognise only candidates who emerged from valid primary elections conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026 and the ADC constitution.

It warned that any nomination process outside the prescribed legal and constitutional framework would be considered invalid.

The party’s declaration comes amid an apparent dispute over the identities of persons presented as ADC candidates in the state.

Specifically, the Oyo ADC rejected the candidacies of Oloye Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke and other individuals listed as senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly candidates.

The party said the affected individuals were unknown to its recognised leadership and structure in Oyo State.

According to the communiqué, the display of their personal information and qualifications by INEC could not, on its own, make their candidacies valid.

The party alleged that the process leading to the display might have been compromised, although it did not disclose specific evidence of the alleged compromise in its statement.

The ADC also took aim at Hon. Afeez Adelowo Ona-Ara and members of the group associated with him, declaring that they had no authority to speak or act on behalf of the party in Oyo State.

The party therefore advised members of the public to disregard representations made by the group on behalf of the Oyo ADC.

While the controversy continues, the party declared its readiness to support its aggrieved candidates in pursuing lawful remedies to reclaim what it described as their “stolen mandates.”

The stakeholders also called on party members to remain focused and intensify mobilisation ahead of the December 2026 local government elections and the 2027 general elections.

They further urged party leaders to shun divisive tendencies, stressing the need for unity and collective efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The latest development is expected to further heighten the political and legal battle over who has the legitimate authority to speak for and nominate candidates on behalf of the ADC in Oyo State.

ADC GUBER TICKET: ‘I WON WITH 15,616 VOTES’, ALAGBE FIGHTS SUBSTITUTION.

‘I won ADC primary with 15,616 votes, my name was unlawfully replaced’, Alagbe

The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress in Oyo State has deepened following a fresh protest by the party’s governorship aspirant, Dr Gbemileke Alagbe, popularly known as Eleniyan, over the alleged substitution of his name with that of Adegoke Adegboyega as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Alagbe, in a comprehensive report dated Saturday, August 29, 2026, described himself as the “duly elected Governorship Candidate” of the ADC in Oyo State and accused the party of unlawfully replacing his name despite his alleged victory at the party’s governorship primary.

In the document titled “Comprehensive and Detailed Report on the Unlawful Substitution and Fraudulent Uploading of Governorship Candidate for Oyo State by African Democratic Congress (ADC),” Alagbe stated that the development was a direct challenge to the outcome of the primary election conducted by the party.

He opened the report by stating:

«“This report is to formally document and vehemently reject the unlawful substitution and fraudulent uploading of the name of Adegoke ADEGBOYEGA as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Oyo State in the 2027 general elections, in place of the duly elected candidate, Dr. Alagbe Gbemileke.”»

According to the document, the ADC conducted its governorship primary on Friday, May 22, 2026, through the direct primary system across the 351 wards in Oyo State.

Alagbe said the results were subsequently collated at the Prof. Olajuwon Olaide Hall, Alumni Building, University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

He further claimed that the exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, including Engr. Olugbenga Keshinro, Jane Alaba, Hembadoon Akanoye and Paulina Kaura.

Alagbe claims 15,616 votes

According to the figures contained in the report, Alagbe emerged as the winner with 15,616 votes.

The document listed the scores of the other contestants as follows: Dr Niyi Aborisade, 4,307 votes; Dr Adeduntan Azeez, 500 votes; Adegoke Taofeek, 500 votes; and Ilaka Oyebisi, 90 votes.

Alagbe stated that the results were collated at ward, local government and state levels and that the primary documents were subsequently forwarded to INEC’s National Headquarters.

He specifically cited a letter dated July 27, 2026, referenced ADC/NAT/INEC/NFSS/2026/ADD 061, which he said was signed by the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

The letter, according to Alagbe, was received by INEC on July 28, 2026.

‘Parallel consensus fraudulent’

The major point of contention, according to Alagbe, was the subsequent emergence of another name as the party’s governorship candidate.

He alleged that his name was removed and replaced with that of Adegoke Adegboyega, despite the result he presented showing that he had won the primary election.

Alagbe said the purported justification for the change was a “parallel consensus arrangement.”

But he rejected the explanation, describing it in his report as “fraudulent, undemocratic, and contrary to the law.”

He argued that a purported consensus arrangement could not, in his view, be used to overturn the result of a primary election that had already been conducted and concluded.

‘I was never consulted’

Alagbe also alleged that he was never consulted before the alleged substitution.

He stated that:

«“Furthermore, the substitution was carried out without the consultation or concurrence of Dr. Alagbe Gbemileke, violating the fundamental democratic principle of candidate consent and participation.”»

He consequently described the action as a breach of the party’s constitution and the provisions governing candidate nomination.

INEC portal controversy

The controversy took another turn on Saturday, August 29, when Alagbe alleged that the name of Adegoke Adegboyega appeared on the INEC portal as the ADC governorship candidate for Oyo State.

Alagbe described the development as “premature and prejudicial,” particularly because, according to him, litigation challenging the substitution was already ongoing.

In his words:

«“INEC prematurely uploaded the name of Adegoke ADEGBOYEGA as the ADC governorship candidate for Oyo State on its official portal on Saturday, 29th August 2026.”»

He argued that the alleged action could undermine the judicial process and potentially disenfranchise those who participated in the primary election.

Alagbe cites Electoral Act, Constitution

In his report, Alagbe also cited provisions of the Electoral Act and the 1999 Constitution which he said support his position.

He referred to provisions concerning political participation, party primaries, nomination and substitution of candidates.

He maintained that the circumstances surrounding the alleged substitution did not fall within the lawful grounds for replacing a candidate.

According to him, the purpose of the electoral provisions is to prevent arbitrary changes to candidates after the nomination process has been concluded.

Calls for immediate intervention

Alagbe called on INEC, the judiciary and other electoral stakeholders to intervene in the dispute.

He demanded that the alleged substitution be reversed and that his name, which he described as the name of the duly elected candidate, be restored.

Concluding the report, he stated:

«“This report calls for urgent intervention by INEC, the judiciary, and relevant electoral stakeholders to uphold the rule of law, protect internal party democracy, and ensure the integrity of the 2027 general elections in Oyo State.”»

The controversy is coming at a time when political parties are intensifying preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the emergence and recognition of candidates expected to generate further legal and political battles.

For now, the central dispute remains whether Alagbe’s claimed victory at the May 22 governorship primary remains valid and whether the subsequent emergence and uploading of Adegboyega’s name complied with the applicable electoral and party rules.

The allegations contained in Alagbe’s report have not been independently verified. The ADC leadership and INEC were not quoted in the document as responding to the allegations, and their positions would be required before the claims can be established as facts.

Ogundoyin Visits Kuso on Birthday, Denies Plot Against Ibarapa East Chairmanship Ambition

‘I’m not against your ambition’ — Speaker assures Kuso as zoning controversy deepens

The political temperature in Ibarapa East Local Government rose on Tuesday, August 25, as the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, paid a courtesy visit to the 2026 chairmanship hopeful, Hon. Abdul Akeem Akintola Kuso, on his birthday.

The visit, which took place at Abikef Hotel and Suites, Oroye Bus Stop, off Bako, Ibadan, came amid growing controversy over the zoning arrangement and the choice of the chairmanship candidate ahead of the December local government election.

Ogundoyin, who was accompanied by prominent political leaders from Ibarapa East, including Hon. Yemi Taiwo, Hon. Irekuleyin, Hon. Tolani and the immediate past chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government, Hon. Obalowo, congratulated Kuso and wished him well as he marked his birthday.

However, what began as a birthday visit quickly turned into a significant political conversation as the issue of the Ibarapa East chairmanship ticket took centre stage.

Speaking during the gathering, Kuso made it clear that his aspiration was not borne out of an attempt to take what belongs to another person, insisting that he had never demanded or taken any political position, financial benefit or political slot from Ogundoyin or any of the leaders present.

Kuso, who spoke with emotion, said he had repeatedly been urged to exercise patience and wait for his time, stressing that he believes the time has now come for him to be given the opportunity to lead Ibarapa East Local Government.

He then put a direct question to Speaker Ogundoyin, asking whether he had ever approached him to demand money, a political appointment, a political slot or any personal benefit.

Ogundoyin reportedly answered in the negative.

Kuso subsequently appealed to the Speaker and other political leaders to respect what he described as the long-standing zoning arrangement in Ibarapa East, arguing that the principle of fairness and rotation should be allowed to prevail.

According to him, the current political situation has become particularly disturbing because, after years of being patient, he is now being confronted with what appears to be another attempt to deny him the opportunity he believes is his turn.

Kuso further expressed disappointment at what he described as “hide-and-seek politics,” saying he expected the Speaker, as the most senior political figure in the local government by virtue of his office, to provide clarity and ensure that the established zoning arrangement is respected.

The former chairman of Ibarapa East, Hon. Obalowo, also weighed into the controversy, recalling that zoning had been an important consideration in previous chairmanship contests in the local government.

Obalowo explained that when he sought a second term in office, Hon. Wale Atanda Alase had strongly advocated for the zoning principle and opposed his return, leading to his eventual decision to step down.

He therefore expressed surprise that the same principle appears to be generating a different interpretation now, particularly as there are renewed moves allegedly supporting the continuation of the incumbent chairman despite claims that another zone, from which Kuso hails, is now due.

Also speaking, Hon. Yemi Taiwo urged Speaker Ogundoyin to take the lead in resolving the matter in the interest of fairness and political stability.

Taiwo described Ogundoyin as the superior political leader in Ibarapa East by virtue of his position and urged him to provide clear direction on the contentious issue.

He specifically appealed to the Speaker to speak directly with Hon. Wale Atanda Alase and ask him to desist from any action capable of frustrating Kuso's chances of emerging as the flag bearer of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the forthcoming chairmanship election.

In his response, however, Speaker Ogundoyin moved to douse the growing tension, declaring that he was neither opposed to Kuso's ambition nor working against his aspiration to become the party's candidate.

Ogundoyin explained that his decision to visit Kuso personally on his birthday was partly aimed at clearing the air and dispelling any impression that he was working against the chairmanship hopeful.

The Speaker maintained that he was not biased or partial in the matter and insisted that he had no reason to oppose Kuso's political ambition.

His clarification appeared to provide a moment of calm at a gathering that had become politically charged, although questions surrounding the zoning arrangement and the eventual choice of the party's chairmanship candidate remain unresolved.

The development is expected to further intensify political consultations among stakeholders in Ibarapa East as parties and aspirants intensify preparations for the December local government election.

With Kuso openly insisting that “it is now my turn,” and other stakeholders publicly invoking the long-standing zoning arrangement, the battle for the Ibarapa East chairmanship ticket is increasingly shaping up as one of the major political contests to watch ahead of the election.

For now, the Speaker's declaration that he is not against Kuso's ambition may have calmed nerves, but the bigger question remains: Will the political leadership of Ibarapa East honour the zoning arrangement and give Kuso the opportunity he is demanding, or will the controversy over the chairmanship ticket continue to deepen?

Oranyan Fire Disaster: Alagbe Visits Victims, Promises Fresh Hope for Traders

Days after a devastating fire left several traders counting their losses at Oranyan in Ibadan, the ADC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Dr. Gbemileke Alagbe Eleniyan, has visited the victims with a promise of support to help them rebuild.

Alagbe, accompanied by the ADC House of Assembly candidate for Ibadan North-East Constituency II, Hon. Princess Oluwaseun Dosunmu, and other party leaders, visited the affected traders on Tuesday.

The delegation inspected the burnt shops and listened to emotional accounts from traders who said the inferno had wiped out years of investment and left their businesses in ruins.

One of the victims, Mr. Aderemi Ayuba, alleged that suspected thieves broke into some of the shops, stole valuable items and subsequently set the premises ablaze.

He claimed that valuables allegedly lost in the incident included plasma televisions, generators, home theatre speakers, gold, clothing, wardrobes, furniture and other properties.

Alagbe Steps In

After inspecting the scene, Alagbe expressed sympathy with the victims and acknowledged the devastating effect of the disaster on their livelihoods.

He promised that the ADC would support the affected traders in their rebuilding efforts.

As part of the immediate intervention, Alagbe pledged to provide planks and roofing materials to assist traders whose shops were damaged by the fire.

He also offered prayers for the victims, urging them to remain strong as they confront the difficult task of starting over.

‘We Need Help to Start Again’

Market leaders, including the Iyaloja and Babaloja, appealed for further assistance from government, organisations, philanthropists and other well-meaning Nigerians.

They said the affected traders were not merely dealing with damaged shops but had lost their major means of livelihood.

Dosunmu Joins Victims

Princess Oluwaseun Dosunmu also moved through the affected area, interacting with traders and personally inspecting the extent of the destruction.

She expressed sympathy with the victims and prayed for divine restoration, asking God to give them the resources and courage to rebuild.

For the traders, the visit brought more than words of sympathy. It brought a fresh promise of support at a time when their businesses had been reduced to ashes.

As reconstruction efforts begin, the victims are now appealing to government and other stakeholders to join hands in helping them get back on their feet.
