Looking back about fifteen years ago, I honestly cannot point to one particular thing that inspired me to start writing. However, as a child, I loved reading. Not school books but storybooks. I was always drawn to anything that had to do with stories and tales.
From reading those books, I began to dream about creating my own worlds through storytelling. At the age of seven, the only things I could write were simple tales with titles like "Ade, the Hardworking Girl" and "The Price of Disobedience." They were simple stories, but I enjoyed writing them so much.
Whenever we got a new storybook for a new school term, I would read it, pick an idea from it, and create my own version especially if i don't like the ending đŸ˜‚. I loved telling stories in my own way and imagining different worlds and characters.
Looking back, I would say that my love for stories and my desire to create my own little worlds are what truly inspired me to start writing. What began as a simple childhood interest eventually became a passion I have carried with me over the years.
What Kind of Writer Do You Aspire to Become?
I see storytelling as a way to escape reality, or maybe that is simply because of the kind of stories I read and write. I am passionate about creating beautiful love stories. No matter the genre, I always find a way to include love in it.
Life is already hard, so why should I not involve myself in something that gives me butterflies? That is the kind of writer I want to become... a writer who gives readers something to blush about, cry over, laugh at, and experience a mixture of emotions through. I want my stories to make people feel what it is like to love and be loved. I want them to get lost in the world I create and leave with memories that stay with them long after they have finished reading.
What Impact Do You Hope Your Writing Will Make?
I hope my writing makes my readers feel safe, loved, and comforted. Stories have always been a form of escape for me, and I hope my writing can be that for someone else too.
I hope my stories can brighten someone's day, even if only for a few moments. If a reader is having a bad day and finds comfort, hope, laughter, or even a reason to smile through my writing, then I would consider that a meaningful impact. More than anything, I want my readers to know that love still exists and that happy moments can still be found, even in the middle of life's challenges.
What Keeps You Writing Despite the Challenges?
To be honest, there is one challenge I constantly face as a writer, and it is one of the reasons I joined this Writ-A-Thon. It is not writer's block or a lack of ideas. If I am being truthful, it is simply me giving myself excuses not to write.
Of course, there are other challenges, but I do not see them as obstacles strong enough to stop me. The biggest challenge has always been consistency.
What keeps me writing despite that challenge is my happiness and my love for storytelling. Writing is my safe space. It is the place where I can create, dream, and express myself freely. No matter how many excuses try to get in the way, I always find myself coming back to it because it is something I genuinely enjoy. It brings me joy, and that is something I would never trade.
