Pregnant For The UnknownđŸ€°
(Who's my baby's father?)
Episode 14

"She’ll be in pain throughout the pregnancy," the doctor revealed.

A few hours later

Kingsley, Desmond, and Charles sat beside Charlotte on the bed. She had just woken up.

“Why are you all staring at me with sad faces? Am I dying or what? I just fainted.” Charlotte sighed, trying to sit up.

“There’s something you need to know
” Kingsley began.

“Let’s excuse them,” Desmond suggested.

“No. Just stay. Tell me whatever you want to tell me,” Charlotte said, resting her head on the bed rest.

Kingsley hesitated.
“Actually, the doctor said
”

“Said what? Is my baby okay?” Charlotte asked impatiently.

“No, Charlotte. The doctor advised that you terminate the pregnancy.”

“Whose baby? Not mine, definitely!” Charlotte cut in, her voice rising. “I don’t care if you don’t want to be the father. I’ll raise my child myself!” She got on her knees on the bed, her eyes blazing.

Kingsley tried to calm her, reaching out, but she pushed his hand away.
“Don’t touch me.”

“It’s not about me,” Kingsley said gently. “It’s dangerous for you. The doctor said your body might not survive it. We could lose you.”

“Then so be it! If I die, I die! I’m bringing my baby into this world. You just want to get rid of it—well, I won’t let that happen!” Charlotte shouted, jumping off the bed and running out of the room.

“Charlotte!” all three men called after her, rushing to follow—but she was already at the gate. By the time they got outside, she had disappeared down the street.

Charles stopped Desmond.
“Papa, let Kingsley and I handle this.”

“Make sure she’s safe. Please,” Desmond said worriedly.

“I promise,” Charles nodded, then ran off to catch up with Kingsley, who had already taken off.

Three hours later

Still no sign of Charlotte.

Kingsley stood outside the mansion, pacing restlessly. Charles was beside him.

“What if something’s happened to her? What if she’s been kidnapped again?” Kingsley said, panic in his voice.
**“I’ve failed to protect her. She hasn’t even spent 24 hours with me.”

“Calm down,” Charles replied. “We’ll make it up to her. The doctor told us how to monitor her condition. We’ll do whatever she wants.”

“I’ll lose her if she keeps the baby
and I’ll lose her forever if she doesn’t. I just
I can’t believe I finally found peace with her and now this.”

Charles was about to speak when Kingsley’s phone rang. He answered immediately.

“Did you find her?”

“Yes sir. She’s at a restaurant. Eating,” the voice on the line reported.

“Eating?” Kingsley repeated, surprised.

“Yes sir. I’ll text the address now.”

“Keep an eye on her. We’re coming.”

Moments later, Kingsley and Charles pulled up at the restaurant. Kingsley breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Charlotte calmly eating at a corner table.

They rushed in. Charlotte looked up, saw them—and rolled her eyes, returning to her food like they weren’t even there.

“Hey, baby girl,” Kingsley said softly, sitting in front of her. “I’ve been searching everywhere for you. I’m sorry about—”

“Let her eat in peace,” Charles interrupted.

“Thank you, Charles. At least someone’s a gentleman,” Charlotte said, sipping her juice as Charles smiled.

“I’m really sorry,” Kingsley said again.

“Then why did you come here if you were just going to leave?” Charlotte asked, not meeting his eyes.

“Do you
want me to stay?” Kingsley asked carefully.

“Did I ask you to leave?”

“Sorry, man,” Charles chuckled. Kingsley glared at him but sat back down.

“I’m full,” Charlotte said softly.

“Then let’s go home,” Charles suggested.

Charlotte nodded. Kingsley gently took her hand and rubbed it.

“I won’t force you to do anything. I’ll respect your decision,” he said.

Charlotte looked at him, her eyes teary.
“I want to keep the baby. I know it’s not yours, but I want to.”

“Don’t ever say that again. That baby is mine now, okay? And we’ll keep it. I’ll make sure you both stay safe.”

“Okay
 thank you,” Charlotte whispered.

Kingsley kissed her hand. After paying for the food, they left together.

At Mark’s House (Cindy’s boyfriend)

“I can’t believe I left my friend alone with those two. She’ll be fine, right?” Cindy asked, pacing.

“That’s the tenth time you’re asking. She’s fine, babe. You can go see her anytime—Kingsley will probably get her a phone soon. You two will talk more then,” Mark reassured her.

“You’re right
 I’m just worried,” Cindy muttered.

Just then, Mark’s phone rang.

“Work call,” he said, stepping outside to answer.

Unknown

“Hello, boss.”

“You failed again?! You couldn’t even kidnap a girl?” the woman on the line hissed.

“I sent my men. I’m with my girlfriend right now—”

“I don’t care who you’re with, Mark. Do your job or I’ll make sure your girlfriend finds out exactly who you are.”

Mark’s tone turned ice cold.
“Don’t you dare threaten her. If you go near Cindy or tell her anything
consider Charlotte dead. I don’t play games.”

“You’re threatening me?” she sneered. “Let’s see what your precious girlfriend says when she finds out you’ve been the one trying to kill her best friend.”
Click. She ended the call.

Episode 13

“You have a mom? And she's my nanny?” Kingsley asked, surprised.

“I didn’t know I still had a mom until now,” Charlotte replied.

“What do you mean, Theresa? I thought you said you didn’t have a family,” Desmond said, confused.

“I must be mistaken, Dad. I don’t think she’s the one,” Charlotte said, while Theresa stood frozen.

“I don’t think you’re mistaken though. Why would Theresa be so shocked?” Charles added, narrowing his eyes.

“Theresa
 Theresa
” Desmond tapped her arm. She jolted, her eyes locking on Charlotte.

“My baby
” she whispered, tears brimming in her eyes. She stepped forward, trying to touch Charlotte.

Charlotte stood up quickly, backing away.
“Don’t touch me,” she said through gritted teeth.

“I know I did wrong, baby. But I’m sorry
I was just young and stupid,” Theresa pleaded, tears slipping down her face. She moved closer again.

“Stay right there,” Charlotte warned.

Desmond, Charles, and Kingsley watched, dumbstruck.

“What’s going on? Theresa is your mother? How come?” Kingsley asked.

“She’s not my mother,” Charlotte snapped. “She was just chanced to bring me into this world—not to be a mother. A mother doesn’t abandon her child. It’s been fifteen fcking years! Did you ever think to come back and check on me?”*

“I wanted to
 I really wanted to
” Theresa said, choking on her tears.

“But you never did.”

“I was young and—”

“You were not! You were 28 when you left. Is that ‘young’? You left me. You divorced your husband and disappeared like we meant nothing to you! You think because I was five, I wouldn’t feel the pain? You went around telling people you don’t have a family?” Charlotte scoffed, laughing bitterly.

“I’m sorry. I really am. I’m very sorry,” Theresa said again.

“Stop saying you’re sorry! It doesn’t fix anything. It doesn’t erase the suffering I’ve gone through because of you! And you even had the nerve to become someone else's nanny? You left your own child. Funny.”

“Baby, listen to me—” Theresa reached out again.

“I said don’t touch me!” Charlotte screamed. Suddenly, a sharp pain struck her stomach. She clutched it, her face twisted in pain. Sweat broke out on her forehead. Her eyes rolled back, and she staggered.

Kingsley rushed forward and caught her just as she collapsed.

“Baby girl—Charlotte! Charlotte!” Kingsley shook her gently, panic rising in his voice.
She had already passed out.

“F*ck! She passed out! Call the doctor, Dad!” Kingsley shouted.

Desmond quickly dialed the doctor, while Kingsley carried Charlotte to his room. David and Desmond followed. Theresa stayed behind, hands on her head, tears pouring down her face.

One hour later...
Living Room

“How is she, Doctor? What happened?” Kingsley asked.

“She has anaemia,” the doctor said. “And her body is too weak to carry the baby.”

“Baby? She's pregnant?” Theresa whispered.

“Yeah, she’s pregnant,” Kingsley replied. “Go on, Doctor, please. What do you mean her body is weak? How bad is it?”

“Very bad. I’d actually advise you to terminate the pregnancy,” the doctor said plainly.

“What? That’s my grandchild!” Desmond exclaimed.

“Her condition is serious. Any kind of stress could lead to another collapse. What if no one is around next time? I’m sorry, but if she decides to keep the baby, it’s likely that neither of them will survive or You’ll have to choose who you want to live.”

“Never! Nothing will happen to either of them! Isn’t there any other way? Can’t we try again after this baby?” Kingsley asked desperately.

The doctor sighed.
“No. Her body can’t hold another pregnancy. I’m sorry, Kingsley.”
“We can try to monitor her, give her the best care possible and hope she delivers safely. But
she’ll be in pain throughout the entire pregnancy"

Pregnant For The UnknownđŸ€°
(Who's my baby's father?)
Episode 12

Inside the car, Charles was driving while Kingsley sat at the back with Charlotte.

“I want to give you a heads-up, baby girl,” Kingsley said.

“About what?” Charlotte asked.

“Actually
I told my father you’re my girlfriend—and pregnant,” Kingsley said cautiously.

“What?! I’m not your girlfriend, and you’re not the father of my baby,” Charlotte replied sharply.

“I want to be... if you’d let me,” Kingsley said, gently holding her hand and looking into her eyes.

“But
why? No one would want that. How could you say you want to be the father of someone else’s baby?” Charlotte asked, confused.

“It doesn’t matter whose baby it is. Please let it be our baby. I really love you. I know it’s soon—we just met a few weeks ago—but I’m serious. If you give me a chance, I promise I won’t disappoint you. I’ll take care of you and give you everything you need,” Kingsley said earnestly.

At that moment, Charles drove into the large compound and parked the car.

“It’s not about things. I know I didn’t plan my life this way
but I want to know what it feels like to love someone. I want to fall in love. I won’t let my condition stop me from that,” Charlotte said quietly.

“I know. And I can give you all the love you need. Just
try. Try to fall in love with me,” Kingsley said.

“You can’t tell your heart who to love. I’m sorry
but no. I don’t want to be your girlfriend. I’ll pretend in front of your dad because you’ve helped me, but
I’m really sorry,” Charlotte said, pulling her hand away and stepping out of the car.

Kingsley leaned forward and groaned, “Oh God, Charles, what am I gonna do?”

Charles shrugged. “I don’t know, man. But actions speak louder than words. Show her—don’t just tell her.”

A knock on the car window startled them. “Are you guys going to leave me standing out here? I don’t even know my way in!” Charlotte said impatiently.

All three entered the house. Desmond was watching hockey in the living room. When he saw them, he stood up.

“Is this my daughter-in-law?” Desmond asked with a wide smile.

“Good evening, sir,” Charlotte greeted politely.

“Call me Dad, please. You’re carrying my grandchild. That makes you my daughter too,” Desmond said warmly, gently pulling her to sit beside him on the sofa.

“Kingsley already texted me that you’ll be staying with us for a while. Everything’s ready. It’s late, but I’ve ordered some necessities—clothes and all. I’ve also contacted our family doctor. He’ll be here tomorrow for your check-up. If you need anything or feel uncomfortable—”

“Dad,” Kingsley interrupted. “She needs rest. We can talk later.”

“I’m fine though. Thank you so much, sir—”

“I won’t accept that. Call me Dad,” Desmond insisted.

“Yes, Dad,” Charlotte said shyly.

“Papa, let this girl rest,” Charles added. “She had a long day, and she’s pregnant.”

“Right. Theresa took the day off but she’ll be back early tomorrow. For tonight, we’ll manage with what we have. I’ll send someone to bring food to your room,” Desmond said.

“Thank you, sir,” Charlotte replied.

“Let’s go,” Kingsley said, leading her to his room. Charles stayed behind to chat with Desmond.

In Kingsley’s Room

“Welcome to my room, baby girl. Do you love it?” Kingsley asked with a grin.

“Wait
don’t tell me we’re sleeping here together. Why can’t I have my own room?” Charlotte asked, stepping back.

“Because you’re my fiancĂ©e,” Kingsley shrugged.

“No, I’m not! We’re just pretending—right?” Charlotte reminded.

“As long as you’re here and I’m alive, you’ll be my fiancĂ©e. Maybe even my wife soon,” Kingsley teased.

“You’re crazy,” Charlotte said, shaking her head.

“Yeah—crazy for you, baby girl,” he winked.

“You—” Charlotte started to speak, but Kingsley cut in.

“You had a long and terrifying day. Rest. I know you’re strong, but please rest for the baby—and for yourself,” he said gently, leading her to sit on the bed. “You can take a shower before I get back with your food.”

Later, after they ate, Charlotte argued about sleeping on the same bed. But eventually, she gave in. They both slept—cuddling unconsciously through the night.

The Next Morning

Charlotte took her shower and changed into fresh clothes. The other side of Kingsley’s closet was filled with women’s wear—bags, shoes, and jewelry.

In the dining room, Kingsley, Charles, and Desmond were already seated. When Charlotte walked in, smiles and chatter filled the room.

“How was your night? How are you feeling?” Desmond asked.

Charlotte smiled and nodded. “I’m okay.”

“I think we should start eating now,” Desmond said. “Oh—and I got you a good pregnancy tonic. Theresa will bring it to you.”

“Theresa!” Desmond called out.

Theresa entered, holding a napkin.

Charlotte’s eyes widened. “Mom???” she called out in shock.

Desmond, Charles, and Kingsley turned to her, stunned.

Cindy’s House

Charlotte sat trembling in the living room. Cindy sat beside her, gently trying to calm her down.
“You're safe here, Charlotte. No one knows we're close. Why is that witch going this far?” Cindy asked.
“It’s not my stepmother. She can’t do this. She may be wicked, but not like this. Amos died too
she couldn’t have killed him,” Charlotte replied, still shaking.
“You’re in no position to defend her right now! She threatened you for years to kill your own father. What makes you think she won’t kill you now that you’re the reason she’s out of his house?” Cindy snapped.
“But
those men had guns. When did she start working with people like that?”
“This woman sent a man to r**e you, Charlotte! She’s capable of anything. She’s the devil.”
“What if I hadn’t run? Would they have killed me?” Charlotte whispered, her voice trembling with fear.
“Stop thinking about that. Please
just focus on the baby,” Cindy said, placing a hand on her friend’s belly.
“I’m trying, but the thoughts won’t go away
” Charlotte cried.
Cindy hugged her, patting her back gently. But suddenly—
A car stopped outside.
Cindy rushed to the window. “I think they found us! Let’s call the police!” she grabbed her phone.
Before she could dial, loud banging hit the door.
“Open this door right now!” a man’s voice thundered.
“Break it down!”

Charlotte and Cindy held each other tightly, sobbing.
“I’m sorry for dragging you into this,” Charlotte said between tears.
“Don’t be. It’s not your fault,” Cindy whispered, trying to stay strong.

The door slammed open—
But just in time, Kingsley’s car screeched to a halt in front of the house. Two police officers jumped out.

“Hands up! Drop your weapons!”

The three men surrendered immediately. The officers cuffed them while Kingsley rushed in and hugged Charlotte tightly.
“I’m sorry
I swear, I’ll protect you from now on,” he said.

“Sir, we’ll take them in for questioning. But we’ll need the witness to give a statement at the station,” an officer said.
“She’s in no state to talk. If they don’t confess, beat the truth out of them,” Kingsley snapped.
“I’m sorry, but—”
Charles interrupted, “Officer, we’ll follow up with the statement later.”

Once the police left, the group sat in the living room.
“Are you okay now?” Kingsley asked.
“I’m fine
thanks for saving me,” Charlotte said, teary-eyed.
“No more tears. How’s the baby? Should we go to the hospital?”
“No, I’m fine,” she replied softly.

Cindy narrowed her eyes. “Wait
Charlotte, didn’t you say Amos was the baby’s father? Why is Kingsley so concerned?”
“Haa! That’s because your friend here gave my friend a love potion,” Charles teased.
“You love Charlotte? You barely spoke to her before!” Cindy scoffed.
“You trying to add her to your play toys? Never!” she said, pulling Charlotte away.
“Don’t take my princess away! She needs my warmth!” Kingsley joked.
“She’s pregnant for someone else. Your family won’t like that, especially those evil aunties and cousins. Thanks for saving us, but it’s a NO.”
Charles chuckled. “Bro, I think her dad will be easier to convince than this one.”
Kingsley sighed. “Where do you even get this stuff from?”
“I watch movies,” Cindy said proudly.
“I told you to stop!” Charlotte giggled. “But I don’t think Kingsley is like that.”
“You see? That’s my princess!” Kingsley grinned.
“Will you shut up?” Cindy scolded. Charlotte giggled, saluting playfully.
“Yes, ma’am!”

“I know how these rich people behave. I’ve seen too many movies. I’m more experienced!” Cindy declared.
“Yes ma’am, the stage is yours,” Charlotte replied, bowing dramatically.
Kingsley and Charles watched them, amused.
“I’m glad you’re laughing again. This is the Charlotte I know,” Cindy said, tickling her friend.
They both laughed, forgetting the men were in the room.

“Ahem.” Charles cleared his throat.
“Today’s been a lot. Charlotte needs rest because of her condition,” he said.
“No, my father traveled. I’ll stay with Cindy,” Charlotte replied nervously.
Kingsley stepped forward. “You’re not safe here. I’m taking you home.”
“Last I checked, she has to be your wife first,” Cindy snapped. “She doesn’t even love you.”
“I don’t,” Charlotte admitted.
“Ouch. My heart
” Kingsley said, holding his chest.
“But she’s not safe here,” he insisted.

“I don’t trust you with her,” Cindy said, frowning.
“She’ll be fine with us. Will you be okay alone?” Charles asked Cindy.
“Of course. I’ll stay with my boyfriend till my door is fixed.”
“You have a boyfriend?”
“What were you expecting? A movie where two rich guys fall in love with two poor girls? This isn’t a movie,” she rolled her eyes.
Charles grinned. “We could make it one. I could steal you away.”
“In your dreams.”
“You live in a movie world.”
“I’m experienced,” she said proudly.
“But we have to go now. My dad’s probably worried,” Kingsley said.

“Take care of my friend. If you hurt her, I’ll fight you with everything I’ve got!” Cindy warned.
“You’ve got nothing but a hot body,” Charles teased. Cindy threw a pillow at him and chased him around.
“Let’s leave the babies,” Charlotte said.
“Yeah, let’s go. Catch up when you’re done playing love,” Kingsley said, leading Charlotte out.
“We’re not playing love!” Cindy shouted.
“We’re cupcake!” Charles teased as he followed them.

Unknown Location

“How dare you fail me again?!” The woman screamed, throwing a glass at the man kneeling before her.
“I’m sorry, ma. My boys are in custody. If you can help with their release
”
“They should rot for failing me. Stay alert—I’ll make a new plan. And if they dare mention my name, I’ll kill their families. And yours too.”

The room turned icy with her threat.

Episode 10

Not long after...

Police sirens blared as they arrived at King's Corporation. The entire building was sealed off. Officers scattered across the premises, some tracking the direction of the gunshots while their team leader approached Kingsley.

“According to the CCTV footage, sir, the deceased entered your company. Minutes later, he walked out and was shot dead. Do you have any explanation?” the officer asked.

“Are you implying I had something to do with it?” Kingsley snapped. “What does his death have to do with me? Do you want to lose your badge?”

“I’m only doing my job, sir.”

“Then do it properly. The first thing you should be thinking is that I and my staff could be in danger too. If you try to shut my company down tomorrow, you’ll see what I’m capable of.”

With that, Kingsley stormed off with Charles.

“I don’t think this is as simple as it looks,” Charles said thoughtfully. “Whoever did this must’ve seen Amos as a threat. Maybe he knew Amos was going to reveal that he didn’t r**e Charlotte.”

“You’re right,” Kingsley agreed. “And if that’s the case, Charlotte might be in danger too. I need her close—that’s the only way to protect her. Let’s go see her father.”

They jumped into the car and drove straight to David’s house.

As they approached Charlotte’s home, Kingsley immediately sensed something was wrong. Her father’s car wasn’t in the driveway. The whole place was eerily silent.

He rushed to the front door and pushed it open. What he saw made him freeze.

The entire living room was ransacked. Furniture overturned. Curtains torn.

“F*ck,” he cursed, running toward Charlotte’s room with Charles right behind him. It was the same—everything had been turned upside down.

“Charlotte! Charlotte!” Kingsley called out, his voice shaky as he checked every room.

“She’s gone,” Charles said grimly. “I think she’s been kidnapped.”

“No. No... this can’t be happening. Call her dad now!” Kingsley said desperately.

“Bad idea. He’s a driver, remember? He could be on the road. We can’t risk it.”

“What do you want me to do, then? That’s my family, Charles!”

“I get it, man. Let’s check her workplace. Maybe someone there knows something.”

“How would that help? Do her coworkers know who took her?” Kingsley asked, pacing in frustration.

“Maybe she escaped. Charlotte’s smart—she’s been through a lot with that wicked stepmother. She’d want to protect herself and her baby. Look around—the place was searched. They were looking for something.”

Kingsley paused, then nodded. “You’re right. Let’s go.”

“I’m driving!” Charles called after him as they ran out.

A few minutes later...

They pulled up at the cafĂ© where Charlotte worked. Some girls inside blushed and giggled at the sight of Kingsley, but he didn’t even glance their way.

“Get me the manager of this cafĂ©!” he shouted. The room went silent as everyone scattered.

A moment later, a round-bellied man rushed out. “Mr. Kingsley! It’s an honor—”

“I’m not here for greetings,” Kingsley cut in. “Where’s Charlotte?”

“She... she doesn’t work here anymore.”

“Did she have any close friends here?” Charles asked.

“Not really. She kept to herself. Like a ghost. But I’ve seen her talk to this girl—Cindy, I think.”

“Where’s Cindy?” Kingsley demanded.

“She left this morning. Right after that shootout at your company, she got a call from home.”

“Give me her address,” Kingsley ordered.

“I’m sorry, sir. I can’t give out staff’s personal information.”

Kingsley stepped forward, his eyes cold. “If you want this little cafĂ© to stay open, you’ll hand it over. Now.”

The manager scrambled back inside and returned moments later with a small slip of paper.

“You’re not the only one asking about them today,” he muttered. “Some guy with a scar came earlier too, threatening me. Today’s been hell.”

“Someone else came for them?” Charles asked.

“Yes, a man with a mark on his face.”

Kingsley’s eyes darkened. “I have to get there before he does.”

He bolted for the door.

“Thank you!” Charles shouted before hurrying after him.

Unknown Location

“You fool! How did you lose the girl?”

“I’m sorry, ma,” the man said, kneeling. “But we just tracked her. She’s at a friend’s house. We’re heading there now.”

“Get to her before Kingsley does. Or don’t come back.”

“Yes ma’am. I won’t fail you this time.”

Hospital...

“What do you mean, doctor? She’s carrying my baby? How?” Kingsley asked, completely confused.

“Yes, and I’m very sure of it,” the doctor replied calmly. “Mr. Amos has no biological connection with the baby. The DNA test shows 0%. But yours—99.9%. Maybe try to remember clearly... you do change girls like boxers,” he shrugged.

“Doctor, this girl was r**ed. Her stepmother paid someone to do it—and that was her first time. So how is this possible?” Charles asked, his voice filled with disbelief.

“And why did you claim the child belongs to Amos when the baby is clearly mine? Are you playing games with me?” Kingsley demanded.

“Actually,” the doctor said with a sigh, “Miss Charlotte seems to have a lot of people after her. You’re not the only one who paid me to alter the results. Mr. Amos did too—and another man came, threatened my life if I didn’t make the test show the baby was Amos’s. Now think—why would Amos pay me if he’s really the father? Charlotte needs protection.”

“So Amos didn’t r**e her?” Charles whispered.

“Can you identify the man who threatened you?” Kingsley asked.

“No, I can’t help with that,” the doctor replied, troubled. “I’m only telling you this because of the donations you’ve made to the hospital. My life—and my family’s—is at risk here.”

“Thank you, doctor,” Kingsley said sincerely.

“You’re welcome. Just make sure Miss Charlotte is well taken care of. She needs it.” The doctor escorted them out.

Charlotte’s House...

Charlotte lay on her bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. Her father, David, walked into the room and sat by her side, but she didn’t blink or notice him.

“Princess... Princess,” he called gently.

Only when he tapped her shoulder did she turn. “Dad,” she said softly.

“Are you okay, Princess?” David asked.

“I know I said I could do this, but I don’t think I can. What if I die? I’m scared,” Charlotte whispered.

“I’m with you. Nothing’s going to happen. Anemia is treatable,” he reassured her, holding her hand.

“The doctor said I can’t work
How do I provide for my baby?” she asked with teary eyes.

“I’m here for you, Princess. That baby is my grandchild, and I’ll take care of both of you until you’re strong enough to work again,” he said.

“Thank you so much, Dad. I should be the one taking care of you,” she cried.

“It’s okay. I know you will someday. Life doesn’t always follow our plans, but God’s plans are perfect. Everything happens for a reason,” David said with a smile.

“I’ve been away from my business too long. I’ll be leaving early tomorrow. A client wants to hire a driver for a week, so I’ll be traveling. Will you be okay alone?” he asked.

“I’ll be fine, Dad. I’m strong,” Charlotte said, trying to joke.

“Yeah, you are,” David replied with a chuckle.

Hospital
 Later

“Hello,” the doctor said, answering a call.

“Did you tell Kingsley what I asked you to?” a man’s voice asked coldly.

“Yes
I did exactly what you told me to,” the doctor replied.

The call ended abruptly. The doctor sighed and rubbed his face in frustration. “God, protect me and my family. How did I get into this mess?”

Kingsley’s Office

“Man, I’m still confused by all this,” Charles said. “What do you plan to do?”

“I’m going to marry her. That’s been my plan since I laid eyes on her. I’m going to her father tomorrow to ask for her hand in marriage,” Kingsley said, determined.

“Bro, her father believes you’re not the baby’s father. He won’t let you marry her,” Charles pointed out.

“Even I don’t understand how I’m the father. I didn’t r**e her. But I’ll protect her—and my child,” Kingsley said with firm resolve.

Charles was about to respond when the door burst open. Amos barged in, Kingsley’s PA trying to stop him.

“I’m so sorry, sir,” the PA said. “I told him you were busy. I don’t know how he found your office floor.”

“It’s fine. You can leave,” Kingsley said.

“What do you want?” Charles asked, glaring.

“Let’s make a deal,” Amos said, smirking. “I’ll let you have Charlotte and her bastard if you give me five million naira.”

Kingsley and Charles burst into laughter.

“You’re insane. How dare you come here and talk nonsense?” Kingsley snapped.

“I know you like the girl. I’m willing to let her go—and that bastard—”

SMACK!
Kingsley landed a punch straight on his face.

“Don’t you dare call my child a bastard, you fool!” he shouted angrily.

“Wow
you must be really obsessed with her,” Amos chuckled, wiping his lip. “Your child? Funny.”

“Get out before I have my guards throw you out. And if you go anywhere near Charlotte again, consider yourself dead,” Kingsley growled.

“Calm down,” Charles said. “He’s just trying to provoke you.”

“Think about my offer,” Amos said smugly as he walked out.

Kingsley collapsed into his chair, frustrated.

A Few Minutes Later

From across the street, a man raised a phone to his ear, eyes locked on Amos as he stepped out of Kingsley's office building.
“Target sighted
 Shoot,” a voice said coldly

BANG!

A gunshot echoed.
Amos collapsed, blood pooling beneath him. Screams rang out. People ran in every direction.
