In October 2023, Chief Akanbi was installed as the sixth holder of the title of Baba Isale Musulumi of Ibadanland. In this role, he serves as a key patron and leader within the Islamic community in Ibadan.

As the head of the Iba Oluyole dynasty, Chief Akanbi is the hereditary custodian of the legacy of Iba Oluyole, the famous 19th-century warlord and the first Baale of Ibadan.

In September 2024, he was elevated to the title of Laguna Balogun of Ibadanland, a prominent rank within the Balogun line—one of the two major succession paths to the Olubadan throne. Before this promotion, he held the title of Aare Egbe Omo Balogun.
