There was one incidence that happened to me on campus during my final year days in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile fe. I always left campus around 9pm to my hostel due to final year wahala and project palaval. So this very day, I got to bus-stop (The one very close to SUB building, OAU students would relate), a guy approached me that he was stranded and he would be glad If I could help him with any amount. As a good Samaritan, his story touched me and I gladly dipped my hand into my pocket to give him #200 note that was on me.
He thanked me for my kind gesture and I left his side to go take bus to my hostel. I got to the bus and the driver asked me If I had change (From campus to AP was #200). I told him I didn't that it was #500 I had on me, I dipped my hand into my pocket to take the #500 notes out for the driver to see. When I firstly dipped my hand into my right pocket, I realised it was only my phone that was there, I checked the other pocket, nothing also was there, I was like "Haaa, modaran" , I checked the pockets again, nothing was found. I firstly moved away from the bus not to get myself embarrassed.
I had #1200 on me that very evening (around 5pm), I bought coke, I gave the seller #1000 but I forgot to collect #500 change from her. Actually that wasn't an issue but the issue was that my phone was out of battery and there was no way I could withdraw from any POS shop. From campus to AP is very far if one wanna trek it 😂😂😂. From campus to campus gate is around 45mins/1hr walk . From campus gate to AP is another 30/40 mins walk again 😂. Then from AP to my hostel is 10/15min as well. I could not risk it 😂😂.
It was around 9pm, the buses were already reducing in numbers, I had no choice that to walk up to the guy I gave #200 earlier. "Excuse me sir, abeg no vex o, shebi u still Sabi me?". Guess what this guy said 😂😭.
He said "I am not sure I have seen this face before". I smiled wickedly cus na small lies dey always vex me but I still kept my cool, I accepted that excuse because he might probably be saying the truth due to the fact that it was dark. I readjusted, rearticulated, rearranged and re-evaluated my words so that he could remember me but he still insisted
I again explained in soft tone and this guy said he didn't know me. I didn't wanna create a scene because my head was already boiling, it wasn't even the #200 that was vexing me but the way he denied me so fast. I couldn't do anything because there was no eye witness when I gave him the money. When I tried to explain again, guess what he did, he walked out on me and he was heading towards sport complex. How would I explain this, that someone that approached me for help, that he was stranded walked out on me, and finally left me stranded!
I couldn't walk up to any bus driver cus I really do not know how to put my words to convince him about the whole issue. I decided to walk up to where the bikemen were and approached one. I told him I would give him money when I got to my place, so he accepted. He charged me 1k but mi o mind. When I got to my hostel, I handled him 1k cash. Throughout the night, I wasn't in good mood and my mindset of helping people changed and I promised myself not to trust anyone that walks up to me for help again. After two weeks, guess what happened
I was also leaving campus very late that day, that's how this same guy approached me. 😂😂. He didn't recognise my face, probably because I wasn't using my cap that day sha. He told me the same story about being stranded, that if I could be of help. This time around, he said he was going to Sabo side sha, that he needed . He told me he had seen #500 and it remained #500 to complete. I told him I have 1k on me that he should give me the #500 so that I would give him the . Wereyy no know say first to do no dey pain😂😂.
He gave me the #500 so as to give him the on me 😂, Immediately I collected the #500, I just walked out on him. He thought I was playing prank at first 😂, when he realised that I didn't look back anymore, he ran up to stop me "excuse me na, give me my #500 back", I politely asked him "Excuse me? Who are you? Do I know you?", he was still smiling thinking I was joking with him, I walked out on him the second time, that was when he knew that I was serious, he ran to me again "Bro abeg stop this play na". Na so I vex, "wa! Aye e fe bajeee ni? O fe daamu ni? Are you mad 😡👈".
He was just saying "Haha haha, why the curse na", I told him "just so you know, I was the guy that you denied two weeks ago just because I needed the #200 that I gave you due to that fact that I realised the #200 was my last card that day ". He was like "I am sorry please". I told him if them born him well make he follow me again, Odape o fe soriburuku abi, Id!ot. Na una type no dey let people help people again. The #200 wey u no gree leave that day, see wetin I use collect from you. If them you born you well Follow me, If I no arrange boys for you, call me bastarddd! Now you can also have a taste of your own medicine. Thiefff!. Na so he sharply follow another way o 😂.
It was a strange encounter, but it taught me a lesson about being cautious when helping others.
