THE DAY PELUMI DIED

The shouts of "Thief! Thief!" filled the air. The man being chased ran past a young man who was unaware of what was happening. He was just heading home from an errand, with a half bag of rice on his shoulder and a jar of oil in his hands.

Without warning, the crowd rushed at him, leaving no room for explanation. The actual thief ran away, but the innocent young man was mistaken for him and attacked. Blows rained down on him, and cutlasses cut him deeper. He opened his mouth to cry out, but another blow landed on his head. He sprawled on the ground, half dead.

The bag of rice and the jar of oil burst, mixing with his blood, creating a terrifying scene. The crowd fetched a nearby tire and set him on fire within seconds. Before five minutes had passed, some young guys arrived, dragging the real thief with them, only to find an innocent young man already ablaze. They tried to quench the flames and dragged him out of the fire, but the stench of roasted flesh filled the air.

Pelumi died that day. The thief was taken away by the police, while Pelumi's co**se was left at the scene.

His mother arrived, looked at her son, and shouted, "Oja, fire of the water serpent, let the blood of my son forever litter your river until you avenge him!"

I walked home shakily, realizing I could have been killed too. Pelumi was my friend before death took him. I was actually on my way to meet him, just few steps close to him and death embraced him.

That is how lawless our society has become !

A RACE TOWARDS SUCCESS
It takes a lot of DISCIPLINE to become and stay a CHAMPION. What is DISCIPLINE? A high-level of willpower to trade away comfort for RESULT.
If indeed you have a purpose to achieve, you therefore have no business with parrots, time wasters, blackmailers, backbiters, indolent, envious, simply because it is not every dog barking at you, you must stop and chase away.
The road to success is cluttered with thorns and distractions. Stay on your lane and be focused. All the best in your race.

LEADERSHIP IS A RISK
Integrity is the bedrock of leadership.

Every change is pioneered by a leader, out to carry out the people's mandate and not betray it.

Working in a company as a warehouse manager has opened me to many risks that come with having a business or leading a group. This is what I deduced so far;

1. Maintain your quality
Maintaining quality in business is as important as running that business. Set your standards, and make a forecast to know if the standard you've set will scale through time. It is better to grow from scratch to the top than from the top to the ground due to standard clauses.

3. Make your staff feel important.
An automobile that carries you must be fueled.
It is quite unfortunate that some boss sees their workers as a "liability and not an asset" though there are some staff that is a liability because they refused to grow per time. Your workers bring in the money therefore, you have to make them feel important by:

a. Appreciating their efforts
b. Give compliments when needed
c. Check on them from time to time. But if your workers are large, create an automated mail that will be sent to them weekly or Monthly.
d. Give them incentives if need be.

5. Be a leader and not the boss
What do I mean? Leaders make things happen and share the glory with the team while bosses watch things happen and take the glory.

A leader once told me, "Michael, if you want these people to do what you want, do what they want". It might not work for you but for some time I've practiced it and it worked. Let your opinion not be the final give room for opinions After all the appraisal will come to the leader.

6. Come as a friend.
There are some skeptics in this, that a leader loses his honor in becoming a friend to his workers.
It's not to sale yourself all out, know your boundary.

Imagine working into your office with a smile greeting the members of your staff asking about their previous day, You've ignited that sense of belonging in them to take the company as theirs.

7. No Competition.
As the leader, you are not in any competition with your team. Give them room to exercise their potential and grow as you are growing too.

Please, leaders, don't muzzle the mouth of the Cow that threshes your field.

CONCLUSION
A work environment is a place of shared purpose and not a place of competition and striving.
