Gov. Makinde Prioritizes Upgrade of Secondary Healthcare Facilities – Commissioner

The Oyo state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi

The Commissioner made the assertion on Tuesday in Ibadan while receiving the Comprehensive Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care (CEmONC), Health Facilities Assessment and BoQ Report.

Oyo Politics: 8 Years Without Ibarapa-born Oyo State 8th House Of Assembly Speaker

On Friday 27th of April, 2018, family members, friends, members, and staff of the Oyo State House of Assembly, stood in twos and threes around the morgue at the Department of Anatomy, University of Ibadan and House of Assembly complex, expressing shock at the ephemeral nature of life after hearing the sudden dead of Rt. Honourable Adesina Michael Adeyemo.

Rt. Honorable Adesina Michael Adeyemo, until his death, was the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly; he was boisterous while presiding over the last plenary of the Assembly on Tuesday, April 24th, 2018, and adjourned till May.

Adeyemo reportedly slumped and died following a heart attack he suffered at his official residence in Ibadan, not long after he spoke over the phone with his wife and three boys abroad.

He died on the way to the Jericho Specialist Hospital, Ibadan while his body was deposited at the morgue of the Department of Anatomy, University of Ibadan

His death came as a shock to the Oyo populace and across the political divides. The ruling APC described his death as a Calamity in the state.

Former governor, late Abiola Ajimobi, during his time as governor and Adeyemo as speaker, lauded his sagacity in piloting the affairs of the Assembly without rancor as well as ensuring a cordial relationship between the legislature and executive.

Late Adeyemo political leaders from the Ibarapa zone deferred to him because of his candor, gentleness, respect, and amiable disposition to all, young and old. He was a rallying point for the state lawmakers, who held him in high esteem because of his unassuming nature.

Rt. Hon. Adeyemo, popularly called AMA by his numerous fans was born into the family of Adeyemo, Adeyemo family of Alaarun compound, Lanlate, Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State.

He was the first child of the family.

He attended IMG, Oke Ado, Ibadan, for his primary school education and Celestial Church High School, Oke Ado, Ibadan, for his secondary school education.

Understanding that education is the best legacy, it makes a man easy to lead but difficult to drive; easy to govern but impossible to enslave. In his quest for higher education, he later proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Education Management with second-class upper.

Due to his unwavering passion for the Legal Profession, the late Adeyemo later attended the prestigious University of Ibadan (UI) for his LL.B in Law and qualified as a Lawyer in 2004. Taking his destiny in his hands, he worked with Olujinmi & Akeredolu law firm.

Late Adeyemo's first shot in politics was in 2007, and since then, he has been in politics till date.

He was the Deputy Chief Whip of the House and a member of committees of fund allocation, works and transport, Agriculture, trade and investment, appropriation, and public finance in the just concluded 7th Assembly.

A trailblazer of sorts, the late Hon. Adeyemo strongly believed that integrity should be pertinent, germane, paramount, and cherished. It is a fact, saying that he is one of the engine rooms of the 7th House of Assembly; his opinions and contributions on bills and motions are highly respected by members.

Late Adeyemo was a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and International Bar Association (IBA); he served on the executive committee as an auditor and Assistant Secretary of the NBA, Ibadan branch.

His ilk constitutes a great blessing to Ibarapa East Local Government and the environment. Beyond his legislative exploits, he brought tremendous development to his people while impacting several lives, raising hopes, and showing what good governance, democracy, and its dividends are all about.

Hon Adeyemo’s monumental achievements and giant strides speak great volumes of his tenacity, doggedness, and pertinacity.

He facilitated the autonomy of two campuses of tertiary institutions in his constituency – The Polytechnic Ibadan, Adeseun Ogundoyin Campus, Eruwa, now Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic and Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Lanlate, through His Excellency, late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, Executive Governor of Oyo State and other State Government projects.

As a confirmation of confidence his people reposed in him which he represents, Honourable Adeyemo’s re-election is the first time a member will be re-elected to the House of Assembly from his constituency – Ibarapa East.

According to the late Oyo Speaker, Rt. Adeyemo said, his vision for the Oyo State House of Assembly is to ensure continuity and sustenance of peace in the 8th Assembly, have a robust and constructive relationship with the executive, and give maximum support to the government in its development plans for the benefit of the people of Oyo State without compromising the independent and integrity of the Legislative arm.

Late Adeyemo was a relationship expert, a liberal, accommodating, highly cerebral, progressive-minded, humble replica of success and epitome of celebrated achievements whose name couldn’t be written off in the political landscape of Oyo State and Ibarapa East Local Government in particular.

Rt. Hon. Michael Adesina Olusegun Adeyemo, the Honourable Speaker of the 8th of the Oyo State House of Assembly, died at the age of 47.

May his soul rest in peace

The Oyo State Police Command has uncovered a human trafficking ring in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

In a major operation, the police rescued 83 individuals and a child from a house in the Orogun area of the city, where they had allegedly been held for an undisclosed period.

Preliminary reports suggest that the victims, believed to be nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo, were lured to Nigeria under the pretence of being offered employment opportunities.

Oyo Farmer, Herder Clash: Atiba Council Chair, WABKEM Urges Residents To Discard Exergerated Online Report
..... Sue For Peace

The executive chairman of Atiba local government, Hon. Wahab Waliu Adetunji (WABKEM), has urged the people of Ilowa-Gbade Village in Oyo town and nearby communities to continue living in peace, saying the information circulated on Saturday morning by a blogger was an exaggeration of the actual event.

WABKEM, in a released statement after getting a report from the committee set up to investigate the earlier reported clash between a herder and a farmer at Ilowa-Gbade Village, said the incident was a dispute between two individuals over grazing rights.

The council chairman said the report going viral that, a 25-year-old
farmer, Akinkunmi Tiamiyu got attacked by a 20-year-old herder, Salau Isiaka, at Ilowa-Gbade Village was untrue, as it was gathered that Tiamiyu and Isiaka had an altercation that led to a fight while both sustained injuries.

"Unfortunately, the general public is fed with wrong information about the recent fight that broke up at Ilowa-Gbade Village; the report circulation on social media is not the true account of the event.

" According to information gathered by the committee set up by the local government, which was headed by the council secretary, Hon. Yèmi Oyelami, investigations revealed that a dispute over grazing rights led to an altercation between a 20-year-old herder, Salau Isiaka, and a 25-year-old farmer, Akinkunmi Tiamiyu.

" As confirmed, a confrontation arose when Isiaka took his cattle to graze on Tiamiyu’s cassava farmland. The action resulted in a physical confrontation by Tiamiyu, resulting in a severe head injury to Isiaka and several injuries to Tiamiyu, where he lost two fingers from his left hand.

" After getting the comprehensive report and with the help of Nigerian police, the affected village returned to a semblance of normality, and effort is ongoing to resolve the issue between the aggrieved side.

" In addition to this, I pay an unscheduled visit to both parties at the hospital and make peace talk with them, including an assessment of all the damages and injuries Sustained.

" As It is our administration's
commitment to ensuring safety and security, we will continue to maintain peace across communities and tribes within Atiba local government.

In his statement, WABKEM appealed to the public, as well as new reporters, to refrain from disseminating unverified and false information that could incite fear and disturb public tranquillity.

He thereafter urged the residents within the local government to report any suspicious activities observed so that the safety and security of communities could be maintained by the security agencies with the help of the people.
