Osun Govt Distributes Free Educational Materials To Schools
The Osun State government has begun distributing free educational materials to schools in a bid to ease the financial burden on parents and support quality education.
According to AIT on X, the rising costs of textbooks, writing materials, uniforms, and other essentials have made education increasingly difficult for many households.
A parent, Orabiyi Adeola, said, “So, what do we do? We will cope because things are so expensive. The money you used to buy some books before, you cannot buy that number of books again. In fact, the list of books they will give you in school sometimes is more than the school fees you are paying. How do you cope? When you are a salary earner, your money cannot even pay for your kids. I wanted to have a fourth child, but my husband said no, because even the three we have, you know, how much we’re paying on their school fees.”
Another parent, Eno Yamino, added, “The only thing they can do is free education and make books available for the kids to go to school. That’s the only thing I believe they can do.”
To address these challenges, the state government has begun providing teaching and learning materials to pupils and students in public schools across the state.
Speaking at the flag-off, Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, said, “Today’s flag-off marked the distribution of new instructional materials across our schools. This includes exercise books, notebooks, chalk, markers, textbooks in core subjects, and over 12,000 sets of furniture. With this, the burden of pupils carrying chairs from home is now history.”
PTA Chairman, Adio Ganiyi, commended the effort, stating: “It underscores your commitment to enhance the quality of education in our state. The provision of textbooks, writing materials, sports equipment, and other essential resources will undoubtedly have a profound impact on the learning environment, empowering our pupils and supporting our teachers.”
