Diogo Jota's funeral was held at the Mother Church of Gondomar, outskirts of Porto, on July 5, 2025 to commit his remains to mother earth.
Some heartbreaking images emerged of his emotional wife, Rute Cardoso, and parents, as former teammates carried the coffin during the funerals of the late Liverpool's Portuguese forward and his brother Andre Silva.
Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, both died in the wreck, which occurred in a Lamborghini along a Spanish highway. Spanish police indicated to that they believe the brothers blew a tire while driving, causing the car to crash and taking their lives at the scene.
It's not clear which brother was driving though, but gathered that speed is being investigated as a possible factor for the crash, although that has not yet been determined.
His wife, Cardoso and Jota both posted a wedding video to their Instagram pages after they were married on June 22. They also expressed their love for each other in posts of their wedding photos.
Jota posted a photo showing him standing with his new wife on their wedding day. He wrote on Instagram, "June 22, 2025. Yes to forever♾️" Cardoso posted a photo showing her in her wedding gown and, now tragically, wrote, "My dream came true 🤍"
According to the Record, Jota and his new wife also attended a wedding together over the last weekend, before Jota was headed back to the UK on road, because an injury had necessitated that he must travel by road instead of flying.
The funeral occurred in Portugal, and Photos also showed Maria Rodrigues, the wife of Jota's deceased brother Andre Silva, crying behind his casket at the funeral.
