WHO WILL TAKE A BULLET FOR THE UNGRATEFUL?
As a police officer, I swore an oath to protect lives and property, even at the risk of my own life. Every day, my colleagues and I put on this uniform not knowing what dangers await us. We face bullets, armed criminals, and life-threatening situations so that others can live in peace.
But sometimes I ask myself: how can one be expected to take a bullet for a citizen who shows no gratitude for these sacrifices? Too often, instead of appreciation, we are met with insults, suspicion, or even hostility from the very people we protect.
Yet, despite this, our duty remains the same. We continue to serve because policing is not about who deserves protection it is about upholding the law and safeguarding society. What we ask in return is not worship or praise, but a little understanding and respect for the risks we take daily.
Behind the uniform, every police officer is also a father, mother, son, or daughter. We feel pain, we have families, and we also desire to return home safely after duty. Citizens should know that encouragement and cooperation go a long way in boosting our morale and making us even more committed to this noble profession.
The truth is, gratitude costs nothing, but it means everything.
If those who protect you are never appreciated, what motivation do they have to keep risking their lives for you?
