Alli Donates ₦50m to Oranyan Market Fire Victims

The Oyo State APC Governorship Candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has donated ₦50 million to traders and business owners affected by the recent fire outbreak at Oranyan Market.

Alli made the donation during a sympathy visit to the market, where he was accompanied by the Oyo South Senatorial Candidate, Hon. Engr. Aderemi Oseni, and other members of the team.

The delegation interacted with affected traders and assessed the extent of the damage caused by the inferno, with many victims recounting the devastating impact of the incident on their businesses and livelihoods.

Speaking during the visit, Alli expressed sympathy with the affected traders, noting that the market represents an important source of livelihood for many families.

He said the intervention was aimed at providing immediate relief and supporting the victims as they begin the process of rebuilding their businesses.

The team described the visit as a demonstration of leadership and compassion, stressing that public service requires standing with the people during both difficult and celebratory moments.

While acknowledging that the financial assistance could not fully compensate for the losses suffered, the team expressed hope that the donation would provide some relief to the affected traders and reassure them of continued support.

The delegation also offered prayers for the victims and their families, wishing them strength and the resources needed to recover from the unfortunate incident.

Tinubu Deserves Long Tenure, Says Olubadan

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves to remain in office for a long time, citing the performance of his administration.

Ladoja made the remarks on Monday at the flag-off ceremony of the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road, where he commended Tinubu for approving the project.

The monarch stressed that the ceremony should not be seen as an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally, but rather as an opportunity to appreciate the President for approving a project he described as important to the safety and economic development of Ibadan and its environs.

He said the road had been associated with security challenges, including kidnapping, adding that its reconstruction would improve connectivity and enhance safety.

Ladoja also said Tinubu should be viewed as the President of Nigeria rather than merely an APC President, stressing that his performance could influence the ruling party's chances in future elections.

The Olubadan expressed confidence that voters would ultimately decide the country's political direction when the time comes.

THE EXPLAINER:- Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli: A Journey of Leadership, Public Service and Legislative Impact

IBADAN — The Explainer, a publication of the Office of the Oyo State APC Youth Leader, has highlighted the remarkable political journey and public service record of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, tracing his career from local government leadership to the National Assembly and the ECOWAS Parliament.

According to the publication, Senator Alli’s journey began prominently between December 1991 and November 1993, when he emerged as the first elected Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, then the most populous local government in Oyo State. The milestone marked the beginning of a career defined by leadership, resilience and commitment to public service.

In 1996, at the age of 33, Alli was elected to represent the Oyo South Senatorial District under the now-defunct United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP). Although military intervention prevented him from being sworn into office, the experience, The Explainer noted, strengthened his resolve to contribute to Nigeria’s democratic development.

His political responsibilities continued in 1999 when he served as Oyo State Secretary and Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In 2003, he was appointed Secretary to the Oyo State Government under the administration of Governor Rashidi Ladoja, before becoming Chief of Staff to the State Government in 2005.

The publication also highlighted Alli’s role as Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited from 2011, where his tenure was associated with projects including the development and construction of Heritage Mall and Cocoa Mall in Ibadan.

From the Senate to Regional Leadership

A major milestone came in 2023 when Alli contested and won the Oyo South Senatorial District election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), securing 111,513 votes.

At the Senate, he took on important legislative responsibilities, serving as Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff, and subsequently Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions.

Beyond Nigeria, The Explainer noted that Alli’s leadership credentials received regional recognition in 2024 when he was inaugurated in Abuja as a member of the 6th Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu , who also serves as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

The publication described Senator Alli’s journey from local government administration to the National Assembly and ECOWAS Parliament as a reflection of sustained commitment to public service, democratic governance, institutional development and the advancement of society.

The Explainer is presented as the “Voice of Oyo APC Youth,” providing insight into the records, activities and leadership journeys of political figures within the Oyo State political space.

Olafisoye Unveils ICT Centre, Massive Infrastructure Projects in Akinyele/Lagelu Constituency

The people of Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency have welcomed another major development initiative as Hon. (Prince) Akinmoyede Olafisoye Wasiu, popularly known as “Lafi,” performed the foundation-laying ceremony for a state-of-the-art ICT Centre and the supply of ICT equipment at Community Grammar School, Lalupon I, in Lagelu Local Government Area.

The project, according to the lawmaker, is aimed at bridging the digital divide among students in public schools and preparing them for emerging changes in the education sector.

Speaking at the ceremony, Akinmoyede highlighted a pending Ministry of Education bill before the National Assembly seeking to transition West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examinations to Computer-Based Testing (CBT), similar to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.

He noted that the absence of CBT centres in public secondary schools across the constituency could place students at a disadvantage if the proposed transition is implemented.

“In all the public secondary schools across our constituency, there is currently no CBT centre, which could severely disadvantage our students. To ease this burden and prepare them for future challenges, I facilitated this ICT centre,” Lafi said.

He added that the centre is expected to be completed before the end of November 2026 and will have the capacity to accommodate at least 100 students at a time.

Beyond the ICT initiative, the lawmaker announced a massive infrastructure programme across Akinyele and Lagelu Local Government Areas.

The projects include the construction of new six-classroom blocks at IDC Primary School, Ṣagbe Pabiekun; Anglican Primary School, Oyedeji; St. David Anglican Primary School, Aroro Yerokun; and Community High School, Atan-Ajobo.

He also announced the comprehensive renovation of two blocks of six classrooms at Islamic Mission Primary School, Lagun.

Other projects unveiled include the construction of a standard mini-stadium at Olorunda Abaa and the completion of the Olugbon and Ejioku Community Hospitals, which he said would be delivered within two weeks.

Akinmoyede appreciated his constituents for their continued support, assuring them of his commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy to residents irrespective of political affiliation.

The event attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders and education officials. Among those present were Oba Basiru Adesina, Elejioku of Ejioku; Oba Arigbabuwo Adekunle, Onilalupon of Lalupon; Oba Olalekan Bello, Onilagun of Lagun; Oba Sunday Alamu, Alapatere of Apatere; and Oba Adekunle Akinwunmi, Onigbo of Ile Igbon.

Also in attendance were the Chief Imam of Lalupon, Waliyullahu Otegbeye; Education Secretary of Lagelu Local Government, Mr. Gbenga Odeyemi; APC Chairmen in Akinyele and Lagelu, Pastor Femi Adigun and Mr. Fatai Awoyoola; APC Oyo Central Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Oyebamiji Joshua; Alhaji Isiaka Alimi; Hon. Mukaila Abiola Ambali; Hon. Olumide Yakub Alli; Hon. Owoade Babatunde Jeleel; Architect Hassan Giwa; Engr. Emmanuel Akinbode; Alhaji Isiaka Asiwaju; Mr. Kehinde Balogun; Hon. AYOLAK; Alhaji Kolubo; Alhaji MM Lawal; and other political and community leaders.

Community leaders and traditional rulers commended Akinmoyede for what they described as impactful representation and people-oriented initiatives, pledging their continued support for his development agenda and his second-term bid in the 2027 general elections.

Nentawe Yilwatda: No Vacancy in Nigeria’s Presidency Ahead of 2027

APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has declared that there is “no vacancy” in Nigeria’s presidency ahead of the 2027 election, as he urged young Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration and its Renewed Hope agenda.

Yilwatda made the remarks while visiting the national headquarters of the City Boy Movement, where he interacted with members and inspected the organisation’s facilities. He said he was encouraged by the growing interest of young Nigerians in politics and their willingness to examine political issues before making decisions.

The APC chairman said the party’s administration had appointed more young people to positions of responsibility than previous governments, describing it as evidence of its commitment to giving the younger generation a meaningful role in governance.

Yilwatda urged young Nigerians to work with the Tinubu administration and support its reforms, saying the President has the vision and solutions needed to address the country’s challenges. He also compared the 2027 presidential contest to the World Cup, saying participation does not guarantee victory.

Akume Tasks City Boy Movement With Massive Mobilisation for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has charged members of the City Boy Movement to intensify their mobilisation efforts and build stronger support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akume gave the charge on Friday, August 21, 2026, during a visit to the movement’s headquarters in Abuja, where he was welcomed by the Director-General, Francis Tosin Shoga, alongside other national and deputy national directors.

During the visit, the SGF toured the organisation’s various departments and commended its leadership and members for their dedication, commitment and coordinated efforts.

US National Debt Surpasses $40 Trillion as Trump-Era Borrowing Tops $11.5 Trillion

The United States national debt has surpassed the $40 trillion mark for the first time, highlighting the growing fiscal challenges facing the world’s largest economy.

According to U.S. Treasury figures cited by Reuters, the debt has more than doubled since Donald Trump first assumed office in 2017. Approximately $11.6 trillion of the increase has occurred during Trump’s two terms, including about $7.8 trillion during his first presidency and another $3.8 trillion since his return to office in January 2025.

However, the rising debt is not solely attributable to one administration. A significant portion of the increase since 2017 occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, when both the Trump and Biden administrations undertook massive emergency spending.

The debt is also being driven by persistent budget deficits, rising spending on Social Security and healthcare programmes, defence expenditure and increasingly expensive interest payments. Interest costs are now around $1.1 trillion annually, exceeding U.S. defence spending.

The $40 trillion milestone has intensified concerns about America's long-term fiscal sustainability, particularly as Treasury borrowing costs rise. The Congressional Budget Office projects federal debt could reach about 120% of GDP by 2036 if current trends continue.

The development is likely to remain a major economic and political issue as Washington faces pressure to reduce deficits while maintaining spending on social programmes, defence and other government priorities.
