Atandamighty Foundation Unveils OSHOARO Memorial Football Competition Featuring Top Radio Stations in Oyo State

The Atandamighty Foundation has officially announced the kickoff of preparations for the first edition of the Oshoaro Memorial Football Competition tagged OSHOARO2025, set to begin on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the United Comprehensive College (UMCC), Molete, Ibadan.

This was revealed during a press conference held at the competition venue and monitored by www.freshvoicenewsmedia.com.ng on Friday.

Organized in honour of the late Pa Oshoaro, father of Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Lamidi Suleiman Abiola (Rtd) of the Nigerian Army, the football tournament will feature a Super Four League format, bringing together four of the top radio stations in Oyo State: Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Ibadan, FRESH FM Ibadan, Lagelu FM 96.7, and Successfm Live.

In his welcome address, Captain Atanda Abiodun Sulaiman, President of the Atandamighty Foundation and co-organizer of the competition, stated that the event is aimed at celebrating media synergy, youth engagement, and sportsmanship while immortalizing the legacy of a passionate football supporter, Pa Oshoaro. He noted that this initiative is the first of its kind in Oyo State, drawing attention from both media and sports enthusiasts.

Captain Atanda added that the event has already started attracting interest from other radio stations who are eager to participate in future editions, stating, “We’re committed to making this maiden edition a memorable one.”

MWO Lamidi Suleiman Abiola (Rtd) described his father as a lifelong football lover and die-hard fan of the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC). All matches will take place at the UMCC Football Field, Molete, Ibadan, with the grand finale holding on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

Oyo State Launches Pacesetter Queens FC, Unveils Logo and Leadership

In a historic stride towards advancing women’s football, the Oyo State Government has officially unveiled its flagship female football club, Pacesetter Queens FC, marking a significant milestone in the sports sector under the administration of Governor 'Seyi Makinde.

The unveiling ceremony, held on Tuesday at a press conference, was led by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adegoke, who presented the club’s official logo and introduced the newly appointed leadership team.

Speaking at the event, Adegoke expressed deep appreciation to Governor Makinde for his unwavering support and vision in promoting gender inclusiveness in sports. She emphasized the administration’s commitment to making a bold entrance into the Nigerian women’s football league and building a legacy of excellence.

“This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the backing of His Excellency. His commitment to empowering female athletes through solid funding and goodwill has been remarkable,” she said.

The Commissioner further highlighted the state’s dedication to sports development and gender equality, stating that the establishment of Pacesetter Queens FC is not just a sports project, but a movement. She urged the players to wear their jerseys with pride and embody the spirit of excellence Oyo State is known for.

Adegoke praised the media for their continued support in amplifying women's sports and called on the general public to rally behind the new club. She described Pacesetter Queens FC as a team built on solid vision, purpose, and professionalism — poised to set a benchmark in Nigerian women’s football.

The club’s modern and dynamic logo, according to Adegoke, represents strength, unity, and ambition — capturing the essence of what the team stands for as it prepares to compete on both national and international stages.

The newly constituted leadership team comprises experienced professionals including: Akinwunmi Obajimi – Head Coach, Damilola Olaitan Badmus – First Assistant Coach (ex-player with CAF C licence), Zaccheaus Aderoju – Second Assistant Coach, Lateef Lukman – Physical Trainer, Foluso Ajayi – FIFA-certified Goalkeeper Trainer, Miss Grace Towobola – Welfare Officer (CAF and UEFA B licence holder).

Adegoke noted that the wealth of experience within the team will foster high-level talent development and elevate the club’s overall performance.

In outlining strategic plans for the club, she announced a one-month open trial for prospective players. A dedicated team bus will be provided upon the conclusion of the trials, while training facilities at Lekan Salami Sports Complex (main bowl and astroturf) and Olubadan Stadium are fully prepared for use.

The event was graced by notable football stakeholders, including ex-international Mutiu Adepoju and the Chairman of the Oyo State Football Association, Oba James Odeniran, underscoring the broad support for the initiative.

With its formal launch, Pacesetter Queens FC is set to blaze a trail in women’s football — reflecting Governor Makinde’s vision of inclusive sports development and positioning Oyo State as a leader in the promotion of female athletic excellence.
