Makinde Visits Adelabu, Assures Safe Return Of Kidnapped Sister, Sons

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has paid a solidarity visit to the residence of the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, following the abduction of Adelabuโ€™s sister and her twin sons.

During the visit, the governor expressed concern over the incident and reassured the family that efforts were ongoing to secure the victimsโ€™ release.

โ€œWe share in your pain at this difficult time,โ€ Makinde said. โ€œI want to assure you that the government and security agencies are doing everything possible to ensure the safe return of your sister and her children.โ€

The governor also conveyed his sympathy to the family and stressed that law enforcement agencies were working relentlessly to rescue the abductees and apprehend those behind the crime.

โ€œOur security agencies are on the matter, and we remain committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice,โ€ he stated.

Makinde further reaffirmed his administrationโ€™s commitment to strengthening security across the state through continued collaboration with relevant agencies.

โ€œWe will continue to work closely with security stakeholders to combat criminal activities, protect lives and property, and ensure that residents can go about their daily activities without fear,โ€ he added.

Gateway Airport Records Historic First International Flight as Ogun Welcomes Returning Pilgrims

Ogun State has recorded another major milestone in its aviation journey with the successful arrival of the first international flight at the Gateway International Airport, Iperu.

The landmark flight, operated by Flynas, arrived from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, conveying over 300 Ogun pilgrims returning from the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. The historic touchdown marks the airportโ€™s first international arrival and a significant step in the stateโ€™s drive to establish itself as a key aviation, business and investment hub in Nigeria.

Governor Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun - MFR described the development as a clear reflection of his administrationโ€™s vision for the Gateway International Airport and its growing role in boosting connectivity, commerce, tourism and economic development.

He congratulated the returning pilgrims and commended all stakeholders, aviation authorities and partners whose commitment and collaboration made the successful operation possible.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has warned political parties that any primary election conducted after its May 30 deadline remains invalid for now.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said parties must continue to obey the existing Electoral Act 2026 pending the outcome of the commissionโ€™s appeal.

According to him, any primary held outside INECโ€™s approved timetable will remain invalid unless the Court of Appeal overturns the Federal High Court judgment affecting parts of the 2027 election schedule.

The warning follows a legal dispute over INECโ€™s timetable for party primaries and candidate nomination ahead of the 2027 general election.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier nullified aspects of INECโ€™s electoral guidelines and schedule after ruling that the commission could not shorten timelines provided under the Electoral Act.

INEC has appealed the ruling and also sought a stay of ex*****on, insisting that its timetable was issued in line with its constitutional and statutory powers.

Before the dispute, INEC had fixed April 23 to May 30, 2026, as the official window for political parties to conduct primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.

The clarification comes as some parties continue to battle internal disputes, reruns and petitions over the conduct of their primaries.
