Food can be defined as any substance consumed to provide nutritional support and energy to an organism. It can be raw, formulated or processed and consumed orally for health, growth or pleasure.
Food is also mainly composed of lipids, water, carbohydrates and protein. There is no way you can live for a long time without getting the right proportion and quality of food needed for the body.

The preparation of food goes a long way. Despite the inflation, scarcity, shortage and high prices of food items, eating well-cooked food whether you are hungry or not guarantees good health and nourishment for the body.

The 8th Lagos Studies Association (LSA) Conference was themed "African Identities: Peoples, Cultures and Institutions in Motion".
The 2024 conference was held at the University of Lagos from June 24, for 5 days. The conference brought together academic and non-academic practitioners to share their research and projects about Lagos, Nigeria, and Africa. It was a time for scholars to connect and network especially at breakfast, lunch, and dinner table, not forgetting how the food was served by unique chefs.

For breakfast, scholars had delicacies of their choices, such as: yam, sweet potatoes, fried eggs, fish sauce, bread, eggs, beans (Ẹ̀wà Àgòyìn), oat, Akara, toast bread, and tea.

At lunch: Chinese rice, Jollof rice, Fried rice, Pasta, Amala, Ewedu, Gbegiri, Obe Ata, Eba, Ogbono soup, Vegetable soup, Egusi soup

At dinner: Yam porridge, Coconut rice, Jollof rice, Eba, Egusi soup, Ogbono soup etc.

During the Award night, it was a time of bonding, sharing of ideas, exchange of contacts, dance, and merriment, and of course meals and ASUN were not left out.
All meals could not have been digested without eaten without water. LSA made sure that they satisfied all attendees with rich food.

Food is quintessential...

Thank you Prof Saheed Aderinto. Thank you LSA. It was indeed a wonderful experience.

NPFL24 Final Games: Oyo SWAN prays for 3SC victory

*drums fans support for Oluyole Warriors*

As the 2023/2024 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) season comes to a close, the Oyo State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) under the leadership of Comrade Ayomiku Ajibola wishes Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) the best of luck in their final game against Sporting Lagos tomorrow, Sunday, at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

We call on the loyal fans of the Oluyole Warriors to come out in large numbers to support their beloved team. The massive support of the fans is crucial to the team's success this season, and we urge them to maintain that spirit.

As stakeholders await the decisions of the NFF Disciplinary Committee on the matches between Rangers and Enyimba, as well as Bayelsa United and 3SC, Oyo SWAN is optimistic that Shooting Stars SC will represent Nigeria in continental competitions next season.

The umbrella body of Sports Journalists in the state appreciates the support of Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, and the management of Shooting Stars Sports Club for their commitment and hard work throughout the season.

Signed:

Boluwaji Ogunmola
Secretary, Oyo SWAN

"We Have the Quality to Change the Narrative by Winning the next AFCON" - Finidi George

The head coach of the super eagles, Finidi George cleared the air on popular questions regarding his new appointment and philosophy for the team during his media outing held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island Lagos.

Speaking on the roles and importance of his technical crew, Coach Finidi said he picked them himself because they are good at what they do. According to him "I picked the assistants, I know their capabilities, what they do and their activity in clubs. They want to work with me and add value to the team."

He went further by speaking about his relationship with former head coach Jose Peseiro as fantastic. In his words Peseiro hoped for him to be the next man for the Super eagles "our relationship is cordial and very good."

Speaking on getting foreign born players into the team, coach Finidi said "there are procedures involved in bringing a player in and we have people at the NFF that have been doing that and they will make it happen when we see a player we know can help. For a very long time we've not had players doing so well in Europe, we need all these players to come back home to perform for us."

Giving his take on the tactics especially the set piece prowess of the team, the super eagles head coach stated that decisions like that should be left to the coaching crew and the team to fix. "We should leave that to the coaching crew. Football has evolved, you never know what to expect.

On the midfield situation and solution "it has come to my notice that we have lots of midfielders outside but we must first see them perform in friendly games and bring them on board

On the involvement and his commitment to the inclusion of home based players in the team "I've been around, I, until recently was a coach of Enyimba. I think there are lots of good players in the league but they've not had opportunities to come to showcase what they have. I'll have time to go around and watch games to pick talents. They'll have their times like others. Friendly games will be the best time to have these homebased players join others from abroad to have these games"

Speaking on his targets, he feels his personal target aligns with that of the NFF. "My personal target is to win, to qualify for the world cup and see how to win the next AFCON"

Asked about his football philosophy, Coach Finidi said "I like the attacking style but the ability to win the ball back through pressing like Manchester City is key. Players must understand when to win the ball back"

According to Coach Finidi, "The list of players will be out this week, the league is just rounding up and we have to see those that are a 100 percent. We'll definitely have one or two new faces in the team. For players to have opportunities to come, there must be a FIFA window so we can invite these players to play in friendly games. But the majority of the players will be those from the last AFCON"

Highlighting the importance of the captaincy and squashing the rumours about his decision, he said "He's not in a position to choose the next captain of the Super eagles as that is up to the team. There are things I cannot change. We are not stripping captaincy from Ekong, it is an agreement between players. My duty is to make sure the team has a good frame of mind to perform."

Coach Finidi congratulated Ademola Lookman on his feat in scoring a hatrick at the Europa League final and also lifting the title, according to him "Ademola is a player that we need, we love him and I'm glad that the had that spectacular performance yesterday."

Finally on the world cup qualifiers against South Africa on the 7th of June at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Akwa Ibom, "We know it is a difficult game, we know their capacity, most of their players are playing in South Africa. With the form of players have, we will definitely have the form for this game," he said.

Port Harcourt boy’ George set for first bow at Super Eagles’ helm

Former Nigeria forward Finidi George will occupy the chief’s corner in the dugout when the Super Eagles confront West African arch-rivals Ghana in an international friendly in Marrakech on Friday.

The 52-year-old former Ajax Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and Real Betis (Spain) winger, who made a scoring debut for fatherland in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Burkina Faso at the National Stadium, Lagos on 27th July 1991, has been appointed by the NFF to hold the reins in the meantime as a group of 22 players take on Ghana and Mali in this month’s international window.

On his debut in 1991, George, who also featured for Calabar Rovers and Sharks FC in the domestic scene before heading to Europe, scored one and made four assists for legendary ‘goalsfather’ Rashidi Yekini (of blessed memory), and also assisted the latter to score Nigeria’s first-ever FIFA World Cup goal against Bulgaria in Dallas, USA on 19th June 1994.

Actually, George scored the goal that took Nigeria to her first FIFA World Cup finals, when he put Nigeria ahead against hosts Algeria in a crucial qualifier in Algiers on 8th October 1993. The match eventually ended 1-1 and earned Nigeria a ticket to the finals in America.

On Friday, George, from a family of football stars (elder brother Alari and younger brother Igeniwari of blessed memory were established players), will bellow instructions from the touchline, 21 months after he began to understudy Portuguese José Santos Peseiro, who led the Eagles to runner-up position at the 34th Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire earlier in the year.

As at Tuesday lunchtime, 12 of the 22 players expected had arrived in Morocco’s fourth-largest city, with defenders Gabriel Osho and Tyronne Ebuehi, and forwards Victor Osimhen and Taiwo Awoniyi having been knocked out by injury.

At the team’s Adam Park Hotel in Marrakech are goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Olorunleke Ojo, defenders Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Jamilu Collins, Bruno Onyemaechi and Benjamin Tanimo, midfielders Alex Iwobi, Raphael Onyedika and Alhassan Yusuf, and forwards Moses Simon, Nathan Tella, Cyriel Dessers, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Sadiq Umar and Ademola Lookman.

Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, defender Chidozie Awaziem, midfielders Frank Onyeka and Wilfred Ndidi, and forward Kelechi Iheanacho were being expected in Marrakech by Tuesday. Only Turkey-based defender Bright Osayi-Samuel is being expected on Wednesday.

The African vice champions will also take on the Les Aigles of Mali at the same Grand Stade de Marrakech on Tuesday, 26th March
