Your Excellency,
I write as a concerned Nigerian citizen to draw urgent attention to reports and growing public concerns regarding activities along Castle Rock Road, Osapa London, within Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Recent reports circulating on social media and among residents have alleged a significant increase in the number of commercial motorcyclists operating within the area despite the existing restrictions placed on commercial motorcycle operations in Eti-Osa and other designated local government areas of Lagos State.
If these reports are accurate, they raise important questions about law enforcement, public safety, and regulatory compliance that deserve immediate attention from the Lagos State Government and relevant security agencies.
The Need for Immediate Investigation
Residents and observers have expressed concerns regarding the apparent concentration of commercial motorcycles in the area. These concerns are not merely about transportation activities but about the broader implications for security, law enforcement, and public confidence in government institutions.
The questions many citizens are asking include:
1. Enforcement of Existing Regulations
Lagos State has clear regulations governing commercial motorcycle operations within restricted local government areas.
If commercial motorcycles are operating openly in substantial numbers within prohibited zones, what measures are being taken to enforce existing laws?
Citizens expect consistency in the implementation of laws and regulations irrespective of location or circumstance.
2. Understanding the Scale of the Operations
The reported growth in motorcycle activities within the area appears significant enough to warrant further examination.
Authorities should investigate whether these activities are simply the result of ordinary commercial transportation demand or whether there are larger organizational structures facilitating and coordinating such operations.
A transparent investigation would help reassure residents and clarify the facts.
3. Public Safety and Security Concerns
Security challenges across different parts of Nigeria have heightened public sensitivity to unusual movements, organized activities, and areas where regulations appear unenforced.
While no conclusions should be drawn without proper investigation, it is reasonable for citizens to expect security agencies to proactively assess any situation that raises legitimate public concern.
The goal should be prevention rather than reaction.
4. Institutional Accountability
Citizens deserve to know what actions have been taken by the agencies responsible for maintaining law and order within the area.
Public confidence is strengthened when institutions demonstrate vigilance, transparency, and responsiveness to legitimate concerns.
A Broader National Lesson
Nigeria's security challenges have repeatedly demonstrated the importance of acting on credible intelligence and early warning signs.
Across different parts of the country, situations that initially appeared minor have sometimes evolved into more complex security concerns because early interventions were either delayed or insufficient.
This is why proactive governance remains essential.
Government agencies must not wait until problems become crises before taking action.
Demonstrating the Capacity of Government
There is often a national debate regarding the extent of the powers available to state governments in matters of security.
However, regardless of constitutional limitations, state governments retain significant authority regarding law enforcement support, regulatory compliance, intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and public safety initiatives.
Citizens expect these powers to be exercised decisively whenever concerns arise.
The issue before us is not merely about motorcycles. It is about the ability of government institutions to enforce laws, maintain public confidence, and respond promptly to emerging concerns.
Conclusion
This appeal is not intended to create panic or assign blame.
Rather, it is a call for vigilance, investigation, transparency, and proactive action.
The people of Lagos State deserve the assurance that their government remains alert, responsive, and committed to enforcing its laws while safeguarding public safety.
I respectfully urge the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Task Force, and relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the concerns surrounding Castle Rock Road, Osapa London, and take all lawful measures necessary to protect the public interest.
History has repeatedly shown that early action is often the difference between prevention and regret.
May wisdom guide our leaders, and may peace, safety, and security continue to prevail in Lagos State and throughout Nigeria.
