KIDNAP OF CHIEF ADEBAYO ADELABU'S SISTER AND HER TWIN SONS: FAMILY APPEALS FOR CALM AS SECURITY AGENCIES COMMENCE INVESTIGATION*

The family of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and leading gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, wishes to formally confirm the unfortunate kidnapping of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Mrs. John-Paul, aged 43, was reportedly abducted by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. while on her way to drop her children at school in Ibadan. The abductors also forcefully took away her 12-year-old twin sons who were with her at the time of the incident.

Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul is the youngest of the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Until her voluntary retirement last year, she had served meritoriously at both the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while making preparations to eventually join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier relocated to the United States of America.

Immediately the incident was reported, all relevant security and law enforcement agencies were duly contacted. We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous crime.

Chief Adebayo Adelabu and the entire family are deeply distressed by this tragic development but remain hopeful and confident in the capacity of the security agencies to secure the safe release of Mrs. John-Paul and her children.

The family respectfully appeals to members of the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and refrain from circulating unverified information that may jeopardize ongoing security operations. We also solicit prayers and support from well-meaning Nigerians during this difficult period.

We further urge anyone with useful information that may assist security agencies in their investigation to promptly report such information through the appropriate channels.

The family will continue to cooperate fully with security authorities and will provide further updates as events unfold.

Thank you.
Signed:

Comrade Femi Awogboro
Media Aide to Chief Adebayo Adelabu

Here’s the outlook over the past days in Nigeria’s power sector

⚡ New 300MVA transformer energised at Katampe, Abuja; more capacity, more stability for the FCT
⚡ Emergency 100MVA transformer failure? Fixed and power fully restored in under 24 hours
⚡ The 450MW Alaoji Power Plant in Abia State is back on the national grid after 3 years

This is what visible improvement looks like. This is what results look like. 🇳🇬

Earlier today, TCN energised a new 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja, a significant boost to transmission capacity across the FCT. A few days ago, TCN and AEDC also demonstrated exceptional inter-agency synergy, restoring electricity supply to parts of FCT within 24 hours of an emergency transformer failure.

Similarly, NDPHC under the leadership of Engr. Jennifer Adighije recently revived the 450MW Alaoji Power Plant after three years, with up to 375MW now available for dispatch to the national grid.

I commend the Management and Staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) for their outstanding work. Under my leadership, productivity and excellence will be acknowledged and rewarded.

An Urgent Call to Action: Lagos State Must Address Growing Security and Enforcement Concerns on Castle Rock Road, Osapa London

To: The Executive Governor of Lagos State

Cc: The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command; Chairman, Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences

From: Akere Okikiola Babatunde

Date: June 2, 2026

Your Excellency,

I write as a concerned Nigerian citizen to draw urgent attention to reports and growing public concerns regarding activities along Castle Rock Road, Osapa London, within Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Recent reports circulating on social media and among residents have alleged a significant increase in the number of commercial motorcyclists operating within the area despite the existing restrictions placed on commercial motorcycle operations in Eti-Osa and other designated local government areas of Lagos State.

If these reports are accurate, they raise important questions about law enforcement, public safety, and regulatory compliance that deserve immediate attention from the Lagos State Government and relevant security agencies.

The Need for Immediate Investigation

Residents and observers have expressed concerns regarding the apparent concentration of commercial motorcycles in the area. These concerns are not merely about transportation activities but about the broader implications for security, law enforcement, and public confidence in government institutions.

The questions many citizens are asking include:

1. Enforcement of Existing Regulations

Lagos State has clear regulations governing commercial motorcycle operations within restricted local government areas.

If commercial motorcycles are operating openly in substantial numbers within prohibited zones, what measures are being taken to enforce existing laws?

Citizens expect consistency in the implementation of laws and regulations irrespective of location or circumstance.

2. Understanding the Scale of the Operations

The reported growth in motorcycle activities within the area appears significant enough to warrant further examination.

Authorities should investigate whether these activities are simply the result of ordinary commercial transportation demand or whether there are larger organizational structures facilitating and coordinating such operations.

A transparent investigation would help reassure residents and clarify the facts.

3. Public Safety and Security Concerns

Security challenges across different parts of Nigeria have heightened public sensitivity to unusual movements, organized activities, and areas where regulations appear unenforced.

While no conclusions should be drawn without proper investigation, it is reasonable for citizens to expect security agencies to proactively assess any situation that raises legitimate public concern.

The goal should be prevention rather than reaction.

4. Institutional Accountability

Citizens deserve to know what actions have been taken by the agencies responsible for maintaining law and order within the area.

Public confidence is strengthened when institutions demonstrate vigilance, transparency, and responsiveness to legitimate concerns.

A Broader National Lesson

Nigeria's security challenges have repeatedly demonstrated the importance of acting on credible intelligence and early warning signs.

Across different parts of the country, situations that initially appeared minor have sometimes evolved into more complex security concerns because early interventions were either delayed or insufficient.

This is why proactive governance remains essential.

Government agencies must not wait until problems become crises before taking action.

Demonstrating the Capacity of Government

There is often a national debate regarding the extent of the powers available to state governments in matters of security.

However, regardless of constitutional limitations, state governments retain significant authority regarding law enforcement support, regulatory compliance, intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and public safety initiatives.

Citizens expect these powers to be exercised decisively whenever concerns arise.

The issue before us is not merely about motorcycles. It is about the ability of government institutions to enforce laws, maintain public confidence, and respond promptly to emerging concerns.

Conclusion

This appeal is not intended to create panic or assign blame.

Rather, it is a call for vigilance, investigation, transparency, and proactive action.

The people of Lagos State deserve the assurance that their government remains alert, responsive, and committed to enforcing its laws while safeguarding public safety.

I respectfully urge the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Task Force, and relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the concerns surrounding Castle Rock Road, Osapa London, and take all lawful measures necessary to protect the public interest.

History has repeatedly shown that early action is often the difference between prevention and regret.

May wisdom guide our leaders, and may peace, safety, and security continue to prevail in Lagos State and throughout Nigeria.
