The 2026 MAYA AWARDS AFRICA week officially kicked off yesterday, August 11th, with a deeply emotional visit to the Agodi Correctional Centre, Ibadan, as we joined the world to celebrate International Youth Day 2026 with young people within the correctional facility.

For us, the celebration was never going to be just about the young people outside the walls. We believe every young person deserves hope, dignity, encouragement, and the opportunity to become better than their present circumstances.

As part of the visit, donations were made to support female inmates, while five male inmates were sponsored to sit for the November/December GCE examinations, an initiative fully sponsored by MAYA AWARDS GLOBAL.

We also identified and appreciated inmates who have developed vocational skills, providing them with financial support to encourage them to keep learning, creating, and believing in themselves.

In one of the most inspiring moments of the visit, the CEO of Unique Fertility FERTILITY FORMULATION DESIGNED FOR WOMEN TRYING TO GET PREGNANT FERTILITY FORMULATION DESIGNED FOR COUPLES TRYING TO HAVE BABY also pledged his personal involvement in the final of the ongoing Prisons Games, an initiative designed to keep inmates active, engaged, happy and mentally sound.

Sometimes, rehabilitation begins with something as simple as reminding someone that they are still seen. The walls may separate them from the outside world, but they remain part of our society, and their future remains important.

As we celebrate International Youth Day today, MAYA AWARDS AFRICA is once again taking its message of “Beyond Applause” beyond the stage, into places where hope, opportunity, and human connection are needed most. This edition is more than an award.
