I called my husband to get diapers and baby milk while returning from work, after about 2hours I called to remind him but he wasn't picking up, I called more than 20times cause he was supposed to be home but he wasn't still picking. My mind was restless.
I wondered what would make my husband ignore my calls for so many time, no Ifemi isn't a chèat, he doesn't keep late night, what has happened to my husband?
I kept wondering, not long I heard someone banging madly on the door what, Mrs Bassey, Mrs Bassey she called, I checked through the window, what is it please I said through the window, your husband, your husband is being béàțen up by angry mòb, the owner of the shop he bought from accused him of stealing so they bèáț him up, comeoooo comeooooo they went to buy fuel to burñ him.
I left my sleeping baby in the house, I forgot to lock the door, the only thing I remember was calling the police to come immediately, I ran without bra to the street where it happened, oh my God, my husband was nakèd and fuèl was poured on him already, I hugged him. Kíłł me too, kíłł me too I screamed, how can a man that has over 70million naira in his account be a thíèf?
What did my husband steal I shouted, my wrapper fell off I was left with my top an tight, kíłł me too, I said, they tried pushing me away madam we will burn you too, leave or we will burn two of you, they said but I was willing to diè along.
My husband isn't a thief. What did she claim he stole? I'll pay 50times, one of the women noticed my C.S fresh scar, madam leave here and go look after your baby, you just had C.S and you don't need this stress, she said.
I didn't care all I wanted was for them to leave my husband, one of the guys híț me with a wood that was when my husband begged me to go take care of our baby that two of us can't diẽ leaving the baby.
I didn't even bother to leave him but they started béáținġ me along and pushed me away. My husband was half dèàd when a guy poured another fuèl on him and lighted him up.
Immediately the police came and quenched the fire but my husband's body was already burnt including some part of his hair and face. Some police men took my husband to a nearby hospital immediately and some of the people that bèàț up and burnt my husband ran away, only few were arrèsted.
What did he steal the police men asked, he stole milk from a shop? A young lady replied, which shop and who owns the shop the police asked, that woman's shop down there, Mama Rose shop, they pointed towards the direction, madam let's go there the police said.
I entered the van and those arrested too were pushed into the van.
When we got there it was my step sister's shop, haaa sister you have been the one after my husband life, How can you accuse your own inlaw of stealing from you? I said.
Hold on madam, do you know her? The police man asked, yes she's my step sister, same father but different mothers, I replied. Ok let's take it up from here, the police man said. He added, Madam you have to follow us to the station for proper questioning and investigations.
They directed her to the van too, madam can we stop by your place for you to wear something better the police said to me? Yes officer, my baby was alone too, I said as we all entered the police van.
I got home and I saw my baby lifeless. Blood of Jesus I screamed.
Two of the police men came in, madam any issue? I had no voice to say a word. I place my ear on my baby’s chest to feel her heart beats, tears was rolling from my eyes. I muttered to myself, ‘after 6years of waiting and God finally blessed me this is how the devil has stolen my joy’ 😭😭😭😭😭
The police man took the baby from me and checked, madam this baby is alive let's get to the hospital immediately. We went to the hospital and the nurse said my baby cried and choked. That was when I realized I left my baby alone for 6hours. Don't worry he'll be fine the nurse said, not long my sister that I had called arrived the hospital and looked after my baby while I proceed with others to the police station.
