I still remember you everyday,
I remember the last time we spoke,
The last time I saw you eat.
I didn't want you talking while eating,
So I kept mute, even as unspoken words lingered on my tongue.
It gladdens my heart you were happier in your last days. You felt really good to see everyone again.
You spoke with joy on video calls, smiling over the phone with your grandchildren oversea, your sight finds comfort reuniting with familiar objects you had used but unseen for too long.
We all felt more years had been added to your strong revitalized energy, God had plans. As always, his ways are not of humans.
Anyway, that morning, the urgent call "Sulaimon Shay wá má bo, bi Alhaji shen shay o yé mí o" brought tremor but it was your voice, clear and strong that resonated: "I'm fine, no need to take me anywhere" a gentle refusal to mom's suggestion of taking you to the hospital.
Shortly, you leaned back and breathed your last while sitting holding moms hand.
I remember you everyday Daddy, (Alhaji).
May God illuminate your resting place and grant you the highest paradise, Aljanotul-Fridous. Amen!
