WHAT SOLUDO DID ON SECURITY!

In laying the groundwork for a liveable and prosperous smart megacity — Soludo’s vision for Anambra — security, law and order were not to be taken for granted.

This is why from the very first day Soludo assumed office he began to puncture the ruse hanging over the eyes of the people. First, he was bold to declare that there was no such thing as “Unknown Gun Men”. Everywhere he went he thundered, “these people in the bush are known. They are people’s brothers, friends, husbands and fathers. They belong to a kindred, village, community and town. Any one in the bush with a gun is a criminal”.

He granted amnesty to the repentant, declared the end to the ‘Monday sit-at-home’, and called for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in furtherance of legitimate dialogue on the issues — real and assumed. Soludo went from Church to church, traveled to major cities within and outside the state to hold town hall meetings with stakeholders. His message was simple, “what is happening in Alaigbo, especially in Anambra is a lucrative criminal enterprise, not agitation or freedom fighting. We must fight and chase out these criminals from our land”. He launched a call centre with toll free lines for crime reporting, encouraged the people to “see something, say something”.

While others pretended about this, Soludo went all out with kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to secure spaces hitherto occupied by criminal non-state actors. This was followed by series of other strategic interventions — including sponsoring an executive bill for the enactment of the now famous “Anambra Homeland Security Law” of 2025 — that are beginning to provide results today.

Ekwulobia Renaissance: The Quest for An Ideal City.

As we look towards the future - 20, 30, 50 years down the line - the concept of an “ideal city” becomes imperative. We must seek and focus on the aspects of urban life we feel are most important for residents to thrive in a healthy community.

The Solution administration’s urban regeneration agenda prioritizes rationale in our urban designs focusing on human values, urban capacities, and the recursive waves of cultural and artistic revolutions that influence large-scale planning schemes.

Like a quintessential renaissance city, the Ekwulobia of Prof. Soludo’s vision whose developmental settlement is centered around the Ekwulobia Solution Square which contains the flyover decked with iconic bridge suspension, a network of razzle-dazzle prop for lighting show, a modern roundabout underside, the tower of light, city center gardens, civil buildings, and a business hub complex.

The square is seen as the most important space from which the rest of the city would interact. The symbolism of the planning is of a new way of seeing the New Anambra. It is a vision that focuses on humanity and collective civilization. The design considered transportation spines, modes and nodes as well as the social aspects of city dwelling, even going so far as to incorporating public park seating within the gardens in and around the square.

The wind of massive disruptive change is blowing across Anambra State. And it requires a maverick at the helm of the state’s affairs. Yes, in the course of the transformation, feathers will be ruffled, egos will be rattled and people’s uncivilized routines will be disrupted. But our focus must be resolute on the aims and objectives for the Anambra Urban Regeneration across economic, social/cultural, and environmental public realms:

“A bold transition cannot start with the premise of pessimism; it must embrace audacity. The audacity of being both troublesome and innovative.” - Chimamanda Adichie
