Military Rights Group Condemns Alleged Assassination Attempt on Naval Officer Yerima

The Beyond Barracks Project (BBP), an organisation advocating for the rights and welfare of military families, has condemned the alleged assassination attempt on Lt. Yerima — the naval officer recently involved in a public confrontation with the FCT Minister.

In a statement issued Monday in Kaduna, BBP Executive Director, Mohammed Thompson, expressed deep concern over reports that the officer may have come under threat shortly after the high-profile clash.

Thompson warned that any attempt to intimidate or harm a serving military officer amounts to a direct challenge to Nigeria’s sovereignty. He cautioned that such actions could fuel national tension and undermine morale within the Armed Forces.

Brigade Commander Confirmed Killed After ISWAP Abduction

General Uba, the Brigade Commander of Damboa who was earlier declared missing, has been confirmed killed by ISWAP terrorists after hours of frantic rescue efforts by troops.

Military sources revealed that the commander had initially recorded a video stating he was safe. According to them, the footage was taken before his condition deteriorated.

They explained that he became disoriented while attempting to navigate the forest, prompting troops and air assets to launch multiple rescue attempts. At one point, he reportedly communicated that he was already heading back to base, raising hopes for a quick recovery.

However, he was later re-captured by ISWAP fighters after news of his abduction spread online. His death was confirmed afterwards.

The development comes after the army had earlier announced that he had safely returned to base, raising tough questions about communication gaps and concerns over the welfare of frontline personnel.

A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission to pay N100 million in damages for actions taken to disrupt the February 22, 2025 local government election in Osun State.

Delivering judgment on Monday in suit number FHC/OS/CS/41/2025, Justice A.A. Demi-Ajayi declared that the sealing of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) offices and the arrest of its staff were unlawful.

The court also held that the police failed to cite any law that had been violated to justify their actions before the election.

Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has placed four nations above England in terms of readiness and quality.

Leboeuf said Spain, Portugal, Argentina and France are currently stronger than the Three Lions, insisting England are not yet on the same level.

The Frenchman made the remarks after Harry Kane inspired England to a 2–0 win over Albania in Sunday’s World Cup qualifier in Tirana.

Speaking to OLBG, Leboeuf praised Thomas Tuchel but argued that England should not rely on a foreign coach to succeed at the World Cup.

“I’m really fond of Thomas Tuchel,” he said. “But a big footballing country like England doesn’t need a German coach to win the World Cup.
“It’s why I rank Portugal, Spain, Argentina and France ahead of England. I don’t see England at the same level right now.”

Kun Khalifat FC have sacked their entire management and coaching crew following a disappointing start to the 2025–26 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

The Owerri-based side announced the sweeping changes in a statement after their 1–1 home draw against Nasarawa United at the Dan Anyiam Stadium on Sunday.

According to the club, the decision followed a thorough review of its structure, performance, and long-term strategic direction.
They also appreciated the outgoing management for their service and commitment.

Kun Khalifat FC have managed just three wins, four draws and six defeats in 13 matches this season and currently sit 16th on the NPFL table with 13 points.

CDD Warns Trump’s Threat Could Invite Foreign Interference in Nigeria

A research analyst at the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), Dengiyefa Angalapu, has warned that U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat of military action in Nigeria could open the door for foreign interference and worsen insecurity.

Speaking to DAILY POST, Angalapu noted that Nigeria’s complex multi-ethnic and multi-religious landscape means different groups interpret insecurity differently, and external threats could complicate matters further.
