A CALL FOR GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION IN ILAJE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

My recent post has brought to light the alarming actions of Abereke authorities and their collaborators, including the Navy and co. We're saying fishermen in this riverine area are being subjected to extortion, harassment, embarrassment and physical abuse.

But someone from Abereke has responded that these allegations, claiming that the information is false and that they're simply trying to GENERATE FUNDS FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.
Maybe they want to built piling to prevent canal destruction abi?

👉The community's statement, posted yesterday in part: says "ABEREKE SHOULD ALSO BE ALLOWED TO GENERATE FUND FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR COMMUNITY...

👉MIND YOU ALL, WHEN IT'S A TIME TO GENERATE FUND, WE WILL SURELY DO THAT FOR DEVELOPMENT OF OUR COMMUNITY.

👉THEY CLAIM THAT NEIGHBORING COMMUNITIES LIKE AYETUNTUN IS SELLING WATER FOR US IN COST PRICE THAT NOBODY COMPLAIN

So the decided to Use that case to extort from our innocent fishermen

👉THEY ALSO SAID THAT IF OTHER COMMUNITIES CANNOT COLLABORATE WITH THEM TO SUPPORT THIS UNLAWFUL BEHAVIOR THAT THAY SHOULD HAVE THER'E OWN CANAL.

Now they're Personilized this canal okay I'm coming for that

However, Their Response Raises More Questions Than Answers.

But the entire Ilaje community is questioning the legitimacy of these fund generation efforts.

We're asking:
👉 By what means are you generating the funds?
👉Are you using speed finey to rise the funds?
👉To what extent?
👉In collaboration with whom?
👉Which community?
👉Which local government?
👉Which state?
👉Federal or which organizations?
👉Which country?
👉Which government are you collaborating with to raise these huge funds?
👉Are you trying to tell ilaje at large that you're generate funds from those that break your law? Even those navy they're the one breaking this particular law you're talking about.

If they're going from Abereke to Okonla they will speed and no one can question them and if anyone try it they will beat hell out of him or her.

👉Can you use the money from speed fines to develop a whole community that faces the sea I incursion?
Or you want to use the struggle of our fishermen to build amd filled your pocket while government is still alive?

This law that has to do with speed limit is in every community but those navy didn't keep or obey this law.

We're saying it again that this extortion of crayfish and fish and goods from fishermen under the guise of "FUND RAISING FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ." Is Uncalled for. Beating, harassment and embarrassing our innocent people is uncalled for. This has to stop and we're not waiting until they killed our innocent people.

This is affecting neighboring like Oroyo, fishermen from Ereke, Etugbo fishermen, Ilurimi fishermen, Oke Etugbo fishermen, Okonla fishean, Abe-alalaa fishermen, and Ogogoro fishermen etc...

If I'm lying concerning this issues, all this community should come out and say I'm lying.

Note: Your comments with your name will be documented for references

They have served ereke communities letter that those that doing throwing job will be paying charges etc

They've started this thing here.
Just of recent they shot Omo Opagun because he refused to give them fish and crayfish. The bullet destroyed the engine while God save that boy.

We urge the government to intervene urgently to Investigate allegations of extortion and abuse of power by Abereke power and forces, Protect the rights and safety of our fishermen and residents .

This situation demands immediate attention to prevent further escalation.

We request that our government takes swift action to address this issue before it gets out of hand.

I repeat this again if this issue remains unchecked and unattended to, it might lead to something else.

We hope that our government will take this matter seriously and intervene before it's too late.

We call on our government to check this act that Abereke people in collaboration with the forces and others are doing. harassimg and embarrass our people. Other communities are suffering from this practice, and it's time for our government to take action.

Now they have been threatening one of our brother from neighboring community since three days ago now but we're watching you oooo if anything happy to him 🤐🤐🤐🤐
I reserve my comments till further notice

URGENT CALL FOR GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION IN ILAJE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

We are writing to bring to your attention a pressing issue affecting the residents of Ilaje Local Government Area, happening in the Abareke community. The Baale, chirman and Oloja of Abereke, in collaboration with the Police, are allegedly engaging in extortionate practices that are causing significant distress to our people.

Fishermen in our riverine area are being subjected to physical abuse, embarrassment, beating, and extortion. Each boat is carry ₦100,000, with two boats amounting to ₦200,000, and additional fees for oil mix making it ₦230,000, just to venture out to sea with the hope of catching crayfish to sell and make money for their families. Unfortunately, the catch often doesn't even amount to ₦50,000 sometimes.

Despite this, this Police, in collaboration with Abareke authorities, are beating our people, forcing them to pay taxes, collecting crayfish, fish, and petroleum products from them. This is not only uncalled for but also deeply saddening.

Those police is making # 2 million per day without doing anything why our people is crying from beating this huge embarrassments

A recent incident has further exacerbated the situation. A fisherman was asked to give crayfish to the police, and when he said he didn't have enough, he was shot at. The bullet hit the engine of his boat, destroying it. The fisherman was then beaten until he lost consciousness and has been hospitalized.

The consequences of these actions are far-reaching. Many of our people are now in fear, struggling to make ends meet due to the harassment and extortion they face at sea. The little catch they manage to make is often share by Abereke police in collaboration with Abereke authorities, leaving them with little to show for their hard work.

This unfortunate situation has been recurring and is highly unacceptable. The actions of those Police, in particular, have been egregious, involving beatings, harassment, theft, and even molestation of our fathers, brothers, and sisters. Innocent people are being accosted without reason, beaten, and forced to pay bribes. Boats are being stopped, and money is being extorted from fishermen under the guise of "government" demands.

We urge the government to intervene in this matter urgently to prevent further escalation. If left unchecked, or unattended to, this situation may lead to loss of life, destruction of property, and further exacerbate the suffering of our people.

Furthermore, we call on all Ilaje indigenes to join forces to address this embarrassment and harassment in our land. It is imperative that we stand together to protect our rights and ensure that our people are treated with dignity and respect.

WE IMPLORE THE GOVERNMENT TO:

1. Investigate the allegations of extortion and abuse of power by the Baale, Olojaw, and the Police.
2. Take immediate action to protect the rights and safety of our fishermen and residents.
3. Ensure that those responsible for these abuses are held accountable.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. We hope for a swift resolution to this crisis.

Sincerely,
ILAJE seaside
