What Is Orisha and why you must know your orisha?
An orisha (also spelled orixa, orisa or orishá) is a spirit that reflects one of the archetypes of Olodumare (God) in the Yoruba religion. Each orisha embodies one of Olodumare’s divine qualities, and serves as a mediator between humanity and the Almighty. There are said to be 401 orishas in total, with each one governing a specific aspect of human life.
For example, there is an orisha of love, an orisha of healing, an orisha of wisdom, and so on. Each individual is said to have their own personal orisha, known as their iyin (destiny). This orisha is determined at birth, and is said to guide and protect the individual throughout their life.
Orishas can be invoked for assistance in all areas of life, and they can also be called upon to help with specific problems or challenges. For example, if you are experiencing difficulties in your love life, you might invoke the orisha Oshun, who governs love and relationships. If you are seeking healing, you might invoke the orisha Obatala, who is the orisha of healing and peace.
When an orisha is invoked, it is said that they ‘mount’ the individual, which means that they enter into and possess the person. This is why it is important to know ur orisha that belongs to u. It's time for u to move closer to your orisha so as to leave a better life.
