GAS PRICE ON THE INCREASE

The price of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG, otherwise known as cooking gas has increased by 34.6 percent on a Week-on-Week, WoW basis, to N17,500 this week, from N12,750 the previous week.

It has been checked and confirmed that the price of 1kg currently retails at N1,350, N1,400 and N1,500 depending on the location.

In a phone interview with the National President of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, NALPGAM, Mr. Olatunbosun Oladapo said the recent increase was a as a result of the industrial action by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, adding that it affected the supply value chain majorly in the South-West.

He noted that gas is majorly a business of demand and supply, when there is limited supply of the product, the demand would be high, thereby result to hike in price.

“As at the time PENGASSAN embarked on the strike, all gas plants were shutdown, most gas plants have limited supply. Dangote, our major supplier in terms of availability and affordability of the product, is yet to release loading invoice to our members who have pending products with the company for more than three weeks forcing marketers to buy from other competitors at a high rate.

“Other competitors, took advantage of the challenges most of our marketers are facing with Dangote and also the industrial action to increase their price.

“No marketer will want want to leave his plant empty, therefore, they buy from these competitors.
“We appeal to Dangote to truck out product to more marketers as this will enhance the supply. We are hopeful the price will drop in the coming weeks,” he added.

Tension in Nasarawa as Gunmen Abduct Pastor’s Wife, Church MemberGunmen on Sunday night abducted Mrs Patience Nasamu, wife of Pastor Samuel Nasamu of the Word of God Church, Agyaragu, along with a female church member in Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.

Narrating the incident, Pastor Nasamu said his wife, who is nursing a three-month-old baby, was taken alongside a church member who had visited the family after service.“I had just stepped out to pray for a sick member when my wife called me. All I could hear was her praying — she couldn’t even say what was happening.

By the time I rushed back, both she and our visitor had been abducted, leaving our baby behind,” he said.

According to him, the attackers stormed his compound around 8:15pm, attempting to smash the doors and windows with a hammer.

When they failed to gain entry, they fired shots into the air, forcing his wife to open the door. She and the visitor were then seized.

Nasamu added that strange faces had earlier been sighted on motorcycles around the community at about 7:00pm, shortly before gunshots rang out.

The cleric said the abductors had not made contact since the incident.

He confirmed that police officers visited after the attack and appealed for calm while investigations were ongoing.

A resident of Agyaragu, who asked not to be named, described the spate of kidnappings in the area as alarming, urging Governor Abdullahi Sule to act swiftly.

“We live in fear every day of being kidnapped or killed if ransom is not paid. Farmers and residents are taken almost daily.

Help us tell Governor A. A. Sule that Agyaragu is now at the mercy of kidnappers,” the resident lamented.

NIGERIAN ARMY SENTENCE TO DEATH

Nigerian Army court sentences soldier to death for killing tricycle rider

A Nigerian Army General Court Martial sitting at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, 3 Division, Rukuba, Plateau State, has sentenced Private Lukman Musa to death by hanging for the murder of Abdulrahman Isah, a commercial tricycle rider in Bauchi State.

Presided over by Brigadier General Liafis Bello, the court found Musa guilty on two counts: culpable homicide and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The verdict followed a full trial in accordance with Law 47 of the Armed Forces Rules of Procedure, 1972.

The court heard that Musa, in collusion with one Mr. Uba, lured the victim to his apartment at the 133 Special Forces Battalion in Azare under the pretext of needing help to move belongings. Once inside, Musa struck the victim with a wooden object, killing him.

The body was concealed in a sack purchased by Musa, transported in the deceased’s tricycle, and later dumped in a village, while the tricycle was sold.

Delivering the judgment, Brig. Gen. Bello described Musa’s actions as “heinous, deliberate, and premeditated,” stressing that they betray the Nigerian Army’s core values of discipline, integrity, and protection of civilians.

Musa was sentenced to death by hanging for culpable homicide and two years’ imprisonment for illegal possession of ammunition.

He was also dismissed from the Nigerian Army with ignominy, pending confirmation of the sentence by the appropriate military authority.

On the ammunition charge, the court found Musa guilty after he failed to account for four missing rounds from his service rifle. A subsequent search of his house uncovered additional ammunition hidden in a bag.

Major Aminu Mairuwa, Acting Director of Legal Services for the 3 Division, told journalists that the ruling demonstrates the Army’s zero tolerance for indiscipline and criminal conduct.
