A cleanup exercise at Ojodu-Berger on Saturday, May 2, 2026 highlighted ongoing waste management concerns in Lagos.
The exercise was led by Eko Ploggas, the Lagos arm of Plogging Nigeria, a nonprofit that combines physical fitness and environmental activism.More than 30 volunteers participated in Saturday’s cleanup exercise.
According to the lead of Eko Ploggas, Priscilla Folayemi, Ojodu-Berger bus-stop was selected because it serves as a major entry point into Lagos. She said the goal was to improve the visual and environmental condition of the corridor.
The exercise also included a “trash-for-value” initiative by Trash Users. Residents were encouraged to exchange waste for money or useful items. Volunteers also sensitised members of the public on proper waste disposal practices.
The exercise received support from government agencies, including the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency. LASEPA’s Director of Grant Management and Innovation, Olabisi Shonibare, said improper waste disposal is blocking drainage channels in the area. She warned that this could worsen flooding risks and said enforcement may follow where necessary.
