Mobile phone editors versus NLEs (1)
While you are desperate to master basic video editing in order to help your business and YouTube pages, don't fall prey of this.
The internet presently is flooded with Ads like "learn video editing using your smart phones", Learn video editing, all you need is a smartphone" etc. Many are rushing into this without thinking twice.
One, what kind of NLE will be used for the training? NLE means Non Linear Editing software like Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro etc. That's the first question you must ask before registering for any video editing class. Obviously, you can't use any of these NLEs on a smartphone. That should make you wonder, what of video editing are they talking about?
Two, what's the scope of the training. What exactly will it cover. Any standard Academy running a course on video editing will show you the scope. Basic Cam editing, multicam editing, dynamic links, muiltipanel works, audio synchronization etc. We do this in my own Editing Master Class. The scope will instantly make you know what's possible on a smartphone and what's not. You can tell, if you're about to invest in what won't really give you the kind of value you need.
Three, smart phones are becoming more powerful now, There are mobile phone editing Apps and they can create interesting videos but not professional videos that you see in the cinemas. You can't edit a feature film on those Apps. They're meant for "quick fix". And to their credit, they do amazing job for that kind of purpose. But don't mix things together. Don't buy an Ad telling you they can teach you to produce avengers on smartphone when their captivating 30 seconds video Ad wasn't even made on smartphone.
Lastly, From my experience as Lead instructor for my Academy. You can learn video editing on mobile phone but can't practise professional editing on mobile phone. I'll say more in part 2.
I hope this opened your eyes.
