Amaechi rejects ADC presidential primary results

A former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress presidential primaries.

The former Rivers State Governor also alleged widespread voter disenfranchisement and electoral malpractice during the exercise.

Amaechi, in a statement issued on his X handle after the primaries on Tuesday, described the results announced by the party as “concocted” and insisted he would not accept an outcome that failed to reflect fairness and transparency.

“Following reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement in most parts of the country during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Primaries yesterday, I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor stated that he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair and transparent.

“I had initially stated that I would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word,” he said.

Amaechi accused the party leadership of betraying the ideals the ADC claimed to represent in its quest to provide an alternative platform for Nigerians.

“I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold, to rescue Nigerians from the impunity and gross mismanagement that our country is currently facing in the hands of the ruling party,” he added.

According to him, a large percentage of party members were allegedly denied the opportunity to vote during the exercise.

“There’s no way that about eighty per cent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results. Then what makes us different from the others?” he queried.

Amaechi said the ADC was created to amplify the voices of ordinary Nigerians and provide a platform built on fairness and inclusion.

“The whole idea of the ADC was to give the Nigerian people a platform, to amplify the voices of the downtrodden, and make Nigeria a better place for everyone irrespective of backgrounds, ethnicity, or religion,

APC HEADING FOR AN EPIC DISASTER IN ỌWỌ/ỌSẸ: THE IMPOSED PRIMARY RESULT IS A LEGAL TIME BOMB AND AN INSULT TO DEMOCRACY

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is sleepwalking into a catastrophic political and legal ambush in the Owo/Ose Federal Constituency of Ondo State.

A critical look at the official primary result sheet reveals an administrative anomaly that defies logic, violates basic electoral guidelines, and practically handovers a guaranteed courtroom victory to the opposition.

By declaring Engr. Kayode Ijalana the winner despite scoring a distant second place, the party leadership is actively engineering its own downfall ahead of the general elections.

The glaring, inexplicable question staring everyone in the face is simple: If Hon. Ayodeji Arowele Samuel was never cleared by the party's Screening Committee, how on earth did his name get onto the ballot, and how was he allowed to accumulate a landslide victory of 9,690 votes?

For a candidate to feature on an official election sheet, print ballot materials, and have delegates cast their votes for him, he must have passed through the party's administrative machinery.

To allow a candidate to contest, dominate the polls by scoring more than the rest of the aspirants combined, and then suddenly "remember" he wasn't screened after the votes are counted is a monumental failure of internal party administration.

This crude technicality creates an immediate, explosive pre-election crisis that the APC will not survive. Hon. Samuel’s camp, backed by the overwhelming mandate of nearly 10,000 disenfranchised party members, will rightfully feel robbed.

This is an open invitation for massive grassroots anti-party sabotage, where angry delegates will actively pool their resources to ensure the APC loses the general election out of spite.

Simultaneously, Hon. Samuel has been handed an ironclad case to approach the Federal High Court. He will easily argue that the party was negligent, acted in bad faith, and violated his right to a fair hearing. A swift judicial injunction stopping the party from submitting Engr. Ijalana’s name to INEC is almost a certainty.

Atiku, in a post on his X handle on Thursday, said his presidential bid represents a broader movement aimed at restoring national prosperity and rebuilding Nigeria.

Amaechi, on his part, pledged to turn the country around within four years if elected, arguing that competence, experience and performance—not ethnicity or political sentiment—should determine the 2027 contest.

Their declarations come as the ADC continues to attract high-profile politicians ahead of the next general elections, amid intensifying political realignments across the country.

Speaking after submitting his form at the ADC national headquarters in Abuja, Atiku wrote, “The march to restore prosperity and better days to our beloved nation took a firm and decisive step forward today at the national secretariat of our great party, the African Democratic Congress.”

The former vice president said the movement transcended politics and was focused on national renewal and hope.
“This is more than a political journey; it is a national movement rooted in hope, renewal, and the collective resolve to save Nigeria from despair,” he stated.

He also called on Nigerians across ethnic, religious and regional divides to support the movement.

“I call on all Nigerians, regardless of region, faith, or background, to join us in this noble cause. Together, we will restore the promise of our nation and bring good times back again,” he added.

On his part, Amaechi pledged to transform Nigeria within four years if elected in the 2027 general election.

Amaechi made the promise shortly after submitting his nomination forms, where he also took a swipe at the administration of President Bola Tinubu, blaming it for the country’s worsening economic hardship.

FROM MESSIAH TO POLITICAL NOMAD

Honestly, at this point, Peter Obi isn’t running a presidential campaign; he’s running a marathon through every political party registry in Nigeria.

It’s hard to take the "New Nigeria" rhetoric seriously when the messenger changes his political address more often than some people change their car tires.

In just five years, we’ve watched him leapfrog from the PDP to the Labour Party, then a brief stint in the ADC, and now he's "formally" landing in the NDC.

This latest move highlights a glaring identity crisis. For a man who claims to have a consistent vision for the country, his lack of political stability is telling.

What does the NDC even stand for that the ADC or LP didn't? It seems the only "ideology" here is finding a platform, "any platform" that will promise a ticket.

Instead of building a party structure from the ground up, he keeps jumping into pre-existing shells, hoping to "occupy" them. You can't build a house if you're constantly moving to a new construction site every six months.

That image is actually quite poetic: he's trying to step into the "Great Statesman" shoes, but they clearly don't fit. You can't lead a nation if you can't even decide which party flag to hold for more than a single election cycle.

Changing parties three or four times in half a decade isn't "strategic maneuvering", it’s a sign of a politician who is confused about his own path.

If he couldn't find "integrity" in the PDP, "labor" in the Labour Party, or "democracy" in the ADC, why should anyone believe the NDC is the final destination? Nigeria needs stability, not a political nomad.

2027 is looking less like a quest for change and more like a desperate game of musical chairs. Safe travels to the NDC.

OPEN LETTER TO THE EDITORS OF THE NEW YORK TIMES

To the Editorial Board,

I am writing to express my profound disappointment and indignation regarding your recent coverage of an incident in Nigeria, which you sensationally headlined as a "r**e festival."

While the events depicted in the video are indeed disturbing and should be condemned by any person of conscience, the framing of your report is a blatant exercise in sensationalism and gross misrepresentation.

By labeling an isolated criminal event as a "festival," you are not merely reporting news; you are crafting a malicious narrative that suggests sexual violence is a cultural celebration in Nigeria.

This is a direct assault on the image of my country and the character of millions of decent, law-abiding Nigerians who find such behavior abhorrent.

Nigeria is a nation of over 200 million people, known globally for its vibrant culture, intellectual contributions, and entrepreneurial spirit.

The incident you highlighted does not define us. Just as a mass shooting in a mall does not define the American spirit, the actions of a criminal few in a street scuffle do not define Nigerian society.

Our values are rooted in community and respect, and to suggest that r**e is a "tradition" or "festival" is a baseless fabrication that serves only to dehumanize an entire nationality for the sake of clicks and engagement.

It is particularly galling to see such "outrage" from a Western outlet when your own backyard is fraught with systemic violence that rarely receives this level of hyperbolic scrutiny.

The United States faces staggering statistics regarding sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking, yet these are reported as individual tragedies or systemic failures—never as "American Festivals of Violence."

There is a persistent bias where crimes in Africa are painted as "cultural," while the exact same crimes in the West are treated as "societal anomalies" and never reported to the rest of the world with such a tarnishing lens.

The New York Post has a responsibility to report with nuance rather than resorting to inflammatory tropes that stoke xenophobia. By using such a headline, you are legiti

THE GREAT NO-SHOW: A NIGHT AZIKIWE BETRAYED AWOLỌWỌ AND ALTERED NIGERIA’S DESTINY

The air in Lagos in December 1959 was thick, not just with the tropical humidity of the coast, but with the electric tension of a nation on the brink of birth.

The federal elections had ended, and the results had delivered a stalemate that required a marriage of convenience.

The players were the titans of the era: the aristocratic Sir Ahmadu Bello of the NPC, the pragmatic Chief Obafemi Awolọwọ of the Action Group (AG), and the charismatic Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe of the NCNC.

THE ROOM WHERE HISTORY WAITED

In a private residence, Chief Obafemi Awolọwọ and his lieutenant, the firebrand Anthony Enahoro, sat in expectant silence. On the table before them lay a document that could have rewritten the history of West Africa.

Awolọwọ, often accused of rigid ambition, had made what many considered his "Great Sacrifice." To keep the conservative Northern People’s Congress (NPC) from the seat of power, he had offered Zik the ultimate prize: The Prime Ministership of Nigeria.

Awolọwọ was prepared to serve under his rival as Finance Minister, believing a "Southern Alliance" was the only way to ensure a progressive, secular, and modern Nigerian state.

They waited. The hours ticked past. Enahoro, known for his sharp instincts, likely paced the floor. Every footfall outside was scrutinized.

But the man of the hour—the "Zik of Africa"—never walked through that door. It was the beginning of a night Azikiwe betrayed Awolọwọ, a night where silence spoke louder than any campaign speech.

THE SILENT FLIGHT TO THE NORTH

While the Action Group leadership sat in that room, Dr. Azikiwe was already engaged in a different sort of theater. In a move that would be characterized by his detractors as the "Great Betrayal" and by his supporters as "National Preservation," Zik had looked toward Kaduna and Sokoto.
