WHAT MANNER OF A LEGISLATOR IS PATRICK UMOH?

Truth be told, no matter what, and without disrespecting our other past Representives before the emergence of Hon. Patrick Umoh, ofcourse they all did their bit but this is the first time in our recent history that we have a legislator who on a weekly basis, session after session is actively engaged with his legislative duties, thereby fulfilling the core mandate of his office.

It's either he is presenting and pushing for bills that will serve the interest of his constituents and the generality of Nigerians or he is moving motions of public importance, since he is usually willing and ready to speak, He is always in the spotlight. A no mean feat for a first timer.

As part of his social contract with the people of Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim and Obot Akara, Hon. Dr. Patrick Umoh within his first 2 years is able to foster community development through facilitating employments, appointments and key infrastructure for his constituents and Constituency. The list is increasing and becoming endless.

Undoubtedly, Hon. Patrick Umoh, is intellectually sound and articulate, the main reason the leadership of the Federal House of Representatives would not hesitate to always nominate him to represent the Assembly both locally and internationally, he has become the poster boy of the 10th Assembly and wherever he goes; he goes with the name Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency on his lips.

Politically, the "Ntanta Affiong" understands the place of collaboration and compromise, he is always willing to work collaboratively with section of people with different political perspectives in as much as it will be to the ultimate benefit of his constituents. He places his Constituency above and ahead, a rarity in our polity.

The truth is that whether you like him as a person or not; you'll still agree that he is the best Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim and Obot Akara Federal Constituency have got since 1999, a gift we are proud to have presented to the 10th Assembly and the Assembly to come. He is such a darling.

HON. DR. PATRICK UMOH MOVES MOTION TO ADDRESS SAFETY CONCERNS ON ABA-IKOT EKPENE ROAD

The Honourable Member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency, Hon. Dr. Patrick Umoh, has raised urgent concerns over the incessant accidents, loss of lives, and destruction of property caused by the ongoing rehabilitation and dualisation of the Aba-Ikot Ekpene Road in Abia and Akwa Ibom States.

In a motion presented today before the House of Representatives, Hon. Umoh emphasised the critical economic and strategic importance of the road, which serves as a major link between the South-South and South-East geopolitical zones of Nigeria, carrying heavy-duty trucks and commercial traffic.

He expressed deep concerns over the failure of the contractor, Messrs CGGC Nigeria Limited, to adhere to the Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME), noting that key safety measures, including dualised carriageways, drainage systems, and additional bridges, have been ignored or poorly implemented.

To prevent further fatal accidents and property loss, Hon. Umoh urged the Federal Ministry of Works to compel the contractor to fully comply with project specifications. He also called on the House Committee on Works to conduct an oversight visit within two weeks to assess the situation and ensure compliance.

The motion, if implemented, will ensure that the Aba-Ikot Ekpene Road is constructed to proper safety standards, preventing further hazards and securing a safer, more reliable transport route for Nigerians.
