COMPTROLLER OF IMMIGRATION VISIT THE ACTING CHAIRMAN OF IKPOBA-OKHA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA
The Comptroller of Immigration Service (CIS), Edo State Command, paid a special visit to the Acting Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area (LGA), Rt. Hon.Obosa Jolly Ogbeide. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the working relationship between the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the LGA, a partnership that dates back to 1969 when the responsibilities of both entities were clearly defined.
During the visit, the CIS emphasized the need to reinforce collaboration between the LGA and the NIS. He noted that while immigration officers were previously attached to local government offices, their presence and role had diminished over time, particularly following the abolition of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) from local government structures. Highlighting the importance of immigration activities at the grassroots level, the CIS revealed that, in the past three months, the NIS successfully removed approximately three non-nationals from Edo State for security reasons. This, he explained, underscored the agency's dedication to ensuring national security and maintaining proper migration control.
In his remarks, the CIS reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Immigration Service to its mandate, particularly in regulating migration, enhancing border security, and contributing to the economic and social development of the country. He also sought continued cooperation from the LGA to ensure the smooth ex*****on of immigration-related duties within the local government area.
The Acting Chairman, Rt. Hon. Obosa Jolly Ogbeide, in response, appreciated the visit and acknowledged the crucial role of the Immigration Serv
